2026 Olys Womens FS PBP - Missed Full of Horrors

With all due respect, do you personally know his wife? I, of course, have never met the woman so therefore don't feel I can pass a truly knowledgeable opinion on her. The word "speculation" always makes me dismissive of whatever follows it because, let's face it, we never know what's true or not these days. And, yes, I know Plushenko has at least some importance in the Russian skating community. He owns/ operates a skating school, does he? And, I think one of his sons is exhibiting a fair amount of skating talent. As I said, life goes on.
Do you only have opinions on ppeople you know well personally? That’s unusual. “Mrs Plushenko” is represented by a vast array of social media posts and interviews, it’s fair to draw conclusions from them.

Plushenko has an added dimension because of his awful wife and speculation on his feelings about Putin and the war, he’s still very important in the Russian skating community.
FWIW, my opinion of his skating was formed long before he married Rudkovskaya, let alone the war started.

As long as she doesn't copy her hair!
Even without ever meeting little milly, I have no doubt she would look fabulous with Alysa-style hair!

You are right ... I think we all form opinions about people we don't know (politicians would be a good example) but they are just that...our own opinions...not something we actually know for sure. So, to directly judge some one I don't know is something I try to avoid. One of the things I love about FSU is that almost everybody uses the "imo" before or after they make a statement, which makes whatever they say totally acceptable (at least, to me). 🙂

And I have no problem with your opinion of his skating at all. I liked it. You didn't. Fair enough. Different strokes for different folks. 🙂

I just rewatched Alysa and Ami. Yesterday I was too excited to really follow the programme, but did you all notice how well-timed Alysa's jumps where? They were on the beat. And I love that split jump with her hand pointing to the ceiling and hope someone got a good photo of it.

Ami's skating is also very special. She relates to the music and to the audience and that's not something you can teach. You either have it or you don't and she certainly does. Also, I don't know what it is, but I love her jumps! I noticed that while she is jumping her arms don't seem as crossed across the chest as for most skaters. Or her rotations are very fast. I'm excited for her future.

Went back and watched from start of Group 2 and the two thirds of Group 3 I missed this morning (and then re-watched the rest).

Karhunen - Clearly still in development as a skater but wins a couple of extra points from me for 1) Skating to 'Swan Lake' and not 'Black Swan' which is really 'Swan Lake' and 2) Using parts of 'Swan Lake' not normally used for skating. Music was too fast for her skating in parts of the program though.

Sauter - Amazing skate! Best reaction of the whole competition. She was ecstatic.

Glenn - Good job! Glad she seemed happy with it, though hard not to wonder what might have been.

Samodelkina - Quickly becoming a favourite to wach. Great program. Love the height on her jumps.

Petrokina - Strong skate from her as well (though I'm just about ready to put Dune in the warhorse basket). Belinda said she was under-rated and I am inclined to agree.

My take on the thread title is related to the old Western "A Fistful of Dollars"
That's also what I thought.

I don’t know Joseph Stalin personally, but I’m pretty sure he’s someone I would consider a bad person.

I also don’t think “IMO” is needed when a post is clearly an opinion.

Totally agree. After all, wasnt GP fired from her commentator position because "it is the responsibility of NBC to provide coverage that our viewers can trust to be unbiased?" Nothing "unbiased' about Johnny's mean-spirited remarks. Meanwhile, on GEM, Kurt was kind. He pointed out her mistakes but you could tell he felt for her, particularly when he said, "I think her heart was broken when she missed the quad." And Carol lane agreed with him. Quite the difference in commentators.
Kurt Browning’s commentary can sometimes be hit or miss but he always steps up for the Olympics. I like how he points out quality footwork, choreographic sequences and musical interpretation and that he treats the competitors with respect. Became of his own Olympic “failures” he seems to have a lot of compassion for the skaters whose performances don’t go as planned.

Also it occurs to me that 32 years after Midori Ito landed her 3A in Albertville, no women’s OGM has landed a triple Axel in their Olympic skates.

I think Browning has excellent these Olympics. Maybe some people don’t care for the humour but I was laughing at his continued shark/fish puns as Gutmann was waiting for her scores. And I feel he’s picking good moments to get into the technical calls and when to maybe let it go without being said because it didn’t change anything about the placement.

And totally agree that because of his own Olympic disappointment, he is very sensitive when covering others who had the same outcome.

He did have me rolling laughing though during the team event medal ceremony when the host said something like “and after the medal ceremony you get to go home and find a nice place to put that in your house”. And Kurt goes “not me!”.

Also, congratulations to Japan for having two women on the podium for the first time!

And 13 women with 200+ scores tonight (and Loena just missing the 200 mark by .35) - that's got to be some sort of record! Also, a clear message to Russia that the women's discipline is doing just fine without them and their cheated jumps.

To think - 185+ was only good enough for 18th place! This was really a remarkably well-skated competition!
One more thing, my friend! Those jumps that Eteri insisted the girls to do with the arms above them in the air (the Rippon effect) didn't help them at all. They may have been 'the thing to do for more points', but I think they found that it didn't really help them at all, at least not this time. Honey hush! They needed much more than that but didn't have it.

I hope Alysa writes a book. I'm especially interested in how her training program went after her comeback - # hours at the rink, etc . Could be an alternative to overtraining young skaters! would love to read about how her coaches accommodated her interest in being an active participant/decisionmaker in all aspects of her skating.

I learned from articles that she pierced her frenulum. I had thought it was her gum. Gosh, the things you learn LOL.

Really love Loena’s program and costume and music full package great too bad about the mistakes
I wonder if Leona will continue. I`ve always loved her womanly, mature skating. She was a little tight tonight but she always brings the meaning of the program to the forefront. I never feel she`s skating element to element (except the opening combo).

I will not be at the World Championships as I spent too much money and exerted too much of my energy in Milano :drama: I have neglected my physical health, I have not been in a gym or on the ice in 2.5 weeks, in favor of pizza, watching skating, and Aperol Spritzes. I am so sorry for this announcement if it disappoints any of my fans.

I am sitting here stuffing my face with an Oreo brownie at present. This is what peak performance looks like, y'all.

I don't expect Loena to continue past this season. Unfortunately it really seems like her body is telling her it's time to stop. I'd love to see her healthy and continuing to skate but it just seems unlikely at this point.

I'd like to take this moment to announce that my manager is amenable to granting me another exception to our in-office requirement for the week of Worlds as well as my split schedule to accommodate the time difference between Prague and the West Coast. I will be present and accounted for, snarking away when Bandit permits me to focus my attention on skating, with a healthy supply of unhealthy snacks to get me through the rough days of waking way too early to sit through 7-8 warm-up groups for every discipline. I shall endeavor to do proud the glorious nation of non-itinerant couch surfers.
