Curling is elegant and strategic

I've got the GBR-NOR match on because I figure Team GB is one of the stronger medal contenders.

I'm really not liking the royal blue & fluorescent green curling ring color palette.

It IS different to see a mixed sport where the guy is throwing the stone instead of his partner.

And the Swedes are siblings!

And we've got our first "they're a married couple!" commentary of these Winter Olympics! The Norwegian curling team are husband & wife.

The Canadian team, who are also married, played Czechia in the first draw today. Along with the lights going out in the first end, a couple more disruptions occurred in their game. A bug was spotted in the middle of the ice and aware that one of their rocks would likely have to travel right over it, the curler attempted to remove it but ended up squashing it and leaving visible blood and bug pieces on the ice - so the game had to be stopped again for a clean up. Then a little later, a third stoppage occurred when a member of the other team set up one of the starter rocks in the wrong spot. The second teammate then threw the first rock of the end before an official came out to intervene. The starter rock was placed in the correct position, the thrown rock was removed and the team was allowed to replay their first rock. All in all not according to plan, but the Canadian team commented they were prepared for pretty much anything to happen and didn't let it phase them.

Watching the rematch of CZE vs USA and the lingo is killing me.

But I love the zen of launching the rocks and the scramble of swiffering

World Curling has issued a clarification on this situation:

Rules Clarification

"When delivering a stone, before the hog line players can retouch the handle as many times as they wish." (However that wasn't the issue that Sweden raised)

and

"During forward motion, touching the granite of the stone is not allowed. This will result in the stone being removed from play."

There's more, but that's the key point: What Marc was doing is wrong according to the rules clarification and will be called going forward. They will have additional umpires observing the 4 sheets of ice starting today.

Also Canada was warned about improper language.

Now that that's cleared up maybe Sweden can focus on actually winning a few games...they're in danger of missing the playoffs but I wouldn't be surprised if they win out and scrape into the playoffs.
