short rant: the camera work is not top notch. In luge a German lugist (the one who won gold) complained about camera work, that every single world cup has better camera work. The officials answered, we can't understand the complaints, we have top camera work, we put a lot of work into it with experts, we are on top of things. Well they definitely aren't. At least not in figure skating.
I'd say even Golden Spin has better camera work

Whew, that was an anxiety producing experience. Loved Adam especially, glad that Ilia skated up to his potential. Yuma just had that one mistake, but his expression wasn’t quite what it was in the team either. OK with the results. And our US men all did either equal or above what we expected - yay!

Yeah, Yuma was on fire in the team event but this was a bit of a nervy skate for him. As a stan, I’m more relieved than anything.

Nothing is a given to me. Ilia has have multiple errors already and he is losing levels on elements. He is one pop or a +rep call from losing his lead.

Ilia has a 5 point lead going into the LP and a TES base value surplus of ~19 points over Yuma and Adam assuming all go for their highest tech content. Fairly sure he could pop the axel and maintain his lead.

Hopefully this frees Ilia of some pressure and he really lets it rip.

Yuma's SP is one of my all-time favorite men's programs ever.

Adam was fantastic.

Ilia Iliad. Ilia'd? Whatever. There's a bit of "don't lose" in his skating, but that's understandable.

I hope the FPs are as good! What a treat.

Every time I watch the Kagiyamas in the K&C makes me do a double take. Oh the genes! LOL

Great competition. Congrats to the skaters. Enjoyed watching it.

The first thing Kagiyama said to the interviewer on how he feels after the SP (Japanese always asks this) was

"I had (a beat) FUN"

Which is a very good thing. He's calm and relaxed. He regrets about the axel not being clean, but the steps, spins were delivered.
On the free, he said that since its the final part of his dream (the Olympics) he will be focusing on every element.

And I think it was Malinin who quickly ran behind Kagiyama's interview.
Oh, and I can't believe the camera kinda jolted during Malinin's skate (jump). It quickly switched to another camera (angle) though I couldn't help but think I was robbed of a performance, even if it was just a few seconds. :shrugs:

Ilia doing the LP i think made the difference it allowed him to get rid of those nerves and prove he could do it when it counted. He's now more calm and getting stronger with each skate. Nathan probably needed another skate in the TE to be really ready the individual event. Instead he had almost a week to think about and we know what happened in the individual SP.

I am okayish with the order of the first three but Kagiyama not even a point above Malinin in PCS is criminal. Why are his skating skills not rewarded more? It is very frustrating. I would have Adam a little bit closer to the top as well but the two harder quad from Ilia clinched the deal and that is okay.

Yuma had the error on the axel so that meant he couldn't go higher on the PCS. Otherwise he could have got 10s.

His steps got +5 across the board except for 1 judge. Well deserved.

I think Ilia has been practicing the 4A so much his timing is off on the triple.

Did you guys notice how hard Ilia’s entrance to the triple axel is? Back cross steps, turn forward and jump. It’s crazy hard. Anyway, he did do it more perfectly in the warm up, but still an amazing jump with such a difficult entrance. Blows my mind every time as someone who can do the back cross steps… but not the axel

It’s not part of the scoring system, but there is something to be said about skating at his level today with the amount of pressure and visibility on his shoulders.

Most relaxed I have ever been watching the Olympic men since I became a FANatic in 1980.So happy for Max and Andrew..I liked the boy from Ukraine..French Adam was terrific..Good for Jun, GoGo..too bad about Yuma's step out..and Ilia was Ilia..
