The two main characters from the Canadian LGBTQ hockey show Heated Rivalry (trailer here) that's blown up so much on social media that the two leads are getting prime seating tonight at the Golden Globes, despite being total unknowns a couple of months ago. Canadian Shane plays for Montreal and wears 24 on his jersey; Russian Ilya plays for Boston and has 81 on his jersey.

It would be 100% hilarious if the LaLas wore hockey jerseys with the numbers 24 and 81 for their RD costumes and I'd pay good money to make that happen. :D Alternatively, Zach could wear a 24 hockey jersey and Marjorie could wear a Saint Viateur Bagel t-shirt and play Shane's temporary beard Rose. That way, when Zach isn't looking at Marjo it's because he's actually looking far away, hoping to catch a glimpse of Ilya stands. Can you tell I've watched the show 3 times in the last month?;)

They are indeed - two main characters are loosely based on Sidney Crosbie and Alexander Ovechkin. The NHL is referred to as the "MLH" in the show. It's on HBO Max in the US and Crave in Canada. The Montreal Canadiens played the trailer for the show during their Pride game and Francois Arnaud (Montreal actor who plays another closeted hockey player in the show) was interviewed during the game. A few teams are playing the music from the show between periods but most other NHL teams are pretending the show doesn't exist. However, a bunch of straight guy hockey podcasts have embraced the shows and their reaction videos have gone viral. Apparently, the show is also being massively pirated in Russia so take that Putin!
 
I should be packing for Sheff, but I’m here to watch the Sheffield skaters in the first group.
