GPdF 2025 PBP - Women's FS: “Chick-a-cheater”

Yes and she skated to the soundtrack from Speed if I'm not mistaken.

Yeah Speed and Prince of Tides. She actually got more respect from the international judges that year than at home. I'll never forget Monty Hoyt placing her 11th (!!) in the short program (triple lutz/double loop, triple flip and double axel which was the hardest content at the event and he gave her a 4.6/4.5) behind Amber Corwin who FELL on her wrapped cheated ugly lutz.

Handicapping Olympic-team making hope after this event

Japan

Nakai did herself a world of good. Her name’s in the conversation and now she needs to show consistency.

Sakamoto’s solidly in Japan’s top 3.

Sumiyoshi is still on outside looking in. She really needs to beat every Japanese skater not named Sakamoto or Chiba.

USA

Levito’s placement here doesn’t hurt, but flubbing the sketchy 3f-3t combo can’t become a habit or she’s opening door for Everhardt and Tennell

Korea

C. Kim and Shin both did okay, but had a couple struggles.

Young You looks significantly weaker than her teammates; now just have to see how Lee and S. Kim do.

France

they can just enter Schild’s name now for the Olympics entry.

Switzerland

It’s tough to see Kaiser struggle. But with Repond out, it’s possible that Kaiser may end up with the Olympic spot.

Listen, folks, before we get ahead of ourselves... Ami's struggled in the past in the major events - J-Nats and Jr Worlds. She's going to have a ton of pressure and expectation on her suddenly at SCI in a couple weeks. She will likely make the GPF, but I wouldn't put my eggs in her basket when it comes to medaling in Milano-Cortina.
Let them gush over Ami for now. If she struggles in two months time no one would remember this win then :)

Levito is just fine at the moment. I expect the Int'l Committee is going to be looking at scores more than placements when it comes to selecting the Olympic team. Both Everhardt & Tennell have some major catching up to that score - 13 & 25 points respectively.

Switzerland has 2 spots. Kaiser made the free last worlds and Repond was top 12.
Kaiser (or some other age-eligible Swiss woman) needs to score at least 185 once before Jan 18th in order to be named to the Swiss Oly team.

And then if Switzerland were to release one spot, would they then look at the qualifier to see who is next there to bring up the next skater?

Ami has the advantage of being the hunter, not the hunted. Japanese nationals will be so interesting.

HELLO you beautiful people. I'm way behind just now and trying to catch up. thoughts on the laideeez. love Sakamoto and can watch her all day long. And her sportsmanship after coming in third to those whiny Ruski bitches on the podium saying, be happy for Christ's sake will endear her to me forever. Levito bores me. Audrey Hepburn and now this? What's next, Doris Day? She either needs to get laid or go to the mall and buy a personality of her own. Schild I lurve. I hated the dress at first but after hearing the music lyrics, the whole Let me be me you effing ef stuff, I completely appreciated the bondage dress.

The only thing this program is missing (from the same artist) is this brilliant 10.00 choreography:
Thank you for always validating my Fumie-fandom, I was thinking of her when Rion skated. (I also thought of her when Jia Shin doubled the loop and the salchow. )

Last 2 spins got V call, maybe she got an e on Lutz finally. But even with the ! in the SP, her GOE went from +2 and +3 to -1 and 0.
The Lutz combo with the ! got 1(-1), 1(0), 5(1), 1(2), 1(3) for a positive GOE of 0.59.

Sure, but I'm just pointing out that she doesn't have the greatest of track records in those two events - last season in particular. She did relatively well in 2023-24 when there wasn't much pressure or expectation, but after her bronze at Jr Worlds that year, she didn't even make the podium at Japanese Jr Nats (4th) and went from 4th at Japanese Sr Nats in 2024 to 15th last year, and she also missed the Jr Worlds podium. Not exactly the track record I'd consider to be something to bank on for Olympic gold.
Just fyi, Ami wasn’t at Jr Worlds 2024, Uemeno (sp?) and Kushida were, in addition to Shimada. She lost the bronze to Elyce last year by 3 points.

Let’s face it, Mao and Jia have been locking everyone else out of the top spots for at least 3 years. I didn’t predict that Mone was going to be the success of her class either, there’s just so much talent and it takes a while to sort out who’s going to make it in Seniors. Then there are those who disappear and come back, like Mihara or Miyake.

If I were an ambitious Japanese teenager I’d shoot for being Prime Minister. The odds are better.

Erm... there are people still gushing over Ava Marie Ziegler and she won NHK in what... 2023? :shuffle:
Fourth in 4cc in 2024, which was 1.5 season ago. Is anyone gushing over her? More like hoping to see some signs of the old form, understandably

Whoops - she was at Jr Worlds 2023 - then finished 10th at Japanese Jr Nats the next season after winning both her JGPs and placing 5th at the JGPF. Last season she went 2-1 at her JGPs, placed 4th at Japanese Jr Nats, won bronze at the JGPF then placed 15th at Japanese Sr Nats.

Just catching up, and oh my word, the top four were all wonderful. Mistakes aside, each skate was so beautiful in its own way. I've long had a soft spot for Ami and I'm thrilled for her, but I almost wish all four of them could have won.

So, if I were writing a novel about figure skating, having Lin-Gracey and Nakai in the same competition would be a Portent of Things to Come. (Lin-Gracey beating then current world medalist Isabeau at the Cranberry Cup and a lot of FSU predicting she'd make a huge splash at Nationals). I think Nakai is something new and shiny and unexpected, and it's the first GP. I would not be shocked if her scores drop at the next event and she's looked at with a more critical eye. I would not be surprised if Levito's PCS rise if she improves just slightly over this performance. I like Nakai OK, but this Disney version of What a Wonderful World is horrific. I feel like this is the version Dolores Umbridge listens to.

Shout to Young You for living my Oly fantasy. I'm sure most of us (admit it) have fantasized about winning/competing in skating and have both programs mapped out (maybe our entire careers), and for my FIRST appearance in an Olympics, Titanic would be my LP (under 6.0, of course. All of my choreographed gold-winning performances are 6.0. Maybe 2010ish COP). I'm surprised MORE skaters don't use Titanic--there's quite a bit of diversity of music, highs/lows, places to do sweeping things, vocals, and is instantly recognizable.

I don't have anything to say about anything technically, except Kaori should have won. I'm sure someone who knows jumps and transitions and other meaningless bits and baubles can justify her win for me. I am, mostly, joking. Till the Olympics. I swear to Navka, if some Rando Russian comes out and steals Kaori's medal, I'll type angrily for years. YEARS. I'm still pissed about Nakano not going to the Olys. Ain't no grudge like an uber grudge.
