2026 Milano-Cortina Olympics - Figure Skating Qualification

Oh, dear. Hopefully the IOC will tell the Russian and Belarusian AINs that they'll go through "team processing" when they arrive in Milano-Cortina and they'll get their AIN uniforms/gear there, courtesy of Nike.
They will continue to be monitored and possibly loose AIN status? How will they participate in IOC drug testing in the run up to Milan? Surely the Russian Fed isn`t in charge of this. I`m, sure they are filled with some new non-regulated substance.

Didn't notice this last week, but the Event Announcement for the Olympic Qualifying Event, officially named "Skate to Milano", is available on the ISU website.

Entries by name are due by Aug 15.

Event schedule -
Fri, Sept 19 - Ice Dance RD, Pairs SP, Women SP
Sat, Sept 20 - Men SP, Pairs FS, Women FS
Sun, Sept 21 - Ice Dance FD, Men FS, Judges Draw for OWG2026

BUMP

Just random question - Does anyone miss the old Olympic schedule order when the Pairs event was always first?

From 1976 - 84, I remembered it was Pairs, Ice Dance, Men, and Women (or Ladies if you will), then in 1988, they put Men after Pairs.

I just think that with the crazy jumps men are doing now, they should schedule the men to skate later. I don't know why they don't ...

China put Pairs last. I wish they had put Women after Dance so I could see both in person. Oh well.

Swiss Int'l Assignments doc has been updated with their JGP assignments and various other Senior B assignments.

Interesting to note that they don't plan on sending Zehnder/Sieber to the Olympic Qualifying Event next month. Not surprising they aren't sending Vouillamoz/Bouvart since he doesn't have Swiss citizenship, but I'm a bit surprised at the decision to not send ZehnSieb.

Another random question: Is there a reason why the pairs have no rest day but the other disciplines do? Is that an advantage or disadvantage generally?

Probably has as much to do with the short track scheduling needs as it does with giving or not giving any FS disciplines a rest day or not. I don't think it will disadvantage any of the pairs teams. Most competitions do not have a rest day between the SP and FS - GPs, Challengers, Sr Bs & domestic comps; even ISU Championships - this past year the Pairs SP was on Wednesday and the Pairs FS was on Thursday.

Reitan/Majorov are going to Beijing. There was a interview in a Swedish newspaper in June were they talked about that they prepared for this as the first competition of the season. Also there is a recent interview from the Piruette magazine were they talk about preparation, but I don`t have access to it. Since they are going - I guess they still think it`s possible for Milla to get her citizenship in time? The other senior team split, so no reason for them to go of citizenship is out of the question.

If a country has a spot, then the team breaks up and the country no longer has a team - does the spot go back to the CHN qualifier or if the country does not get a new team till, say, January the spot is given to the next qualified in CHN or we are one team less?

The spot that was earned outright belongs to UZB. The second spot has to be earned by a different team G/C, but there’s nothing in the qualification document to disqualify a new team with one of them from being a new team that competes in Beijing. If a team goes and earns a spot, that, too, belongs to UZB. There are various deadlines by which the UZB Fed needs to confirm they’re sending team(s) and then whom they’re sending, and then there are deadlines for having the minimums and passports, which should allow substitutes from the top of the qualifier to take spots explicitly if UZB gives up spots or by not having a qualified team for each held spot.

I forgot UZB had a spot and has an option for another, hence the edit, my question is irrelevant for UZB :)
Thanks!

ISU confirmed on 4th April 2025 the spots allocated based on 2025 World Championships (Communication No. 2696). ISU Members had 2 weeks since that Communication to indicate to the ISU if they intend to use their full quota of entries/quota places.
If they waived some spots, the number of spots available to the Beijing Qualifying Competition will increase accordingly.
For instance, in 2018, Denmark immediately gave back the Ice Dance spot and one more spot was available at Nebelhorn.

Otherwise, the final deadline for entries (with names) is 26th January 2026. On 25th January "ISU to relocate any unused quota place". The spots reallocated on 25th January go to the next in line based on Beijing results.

Yup, say the US team comes in 4th in Beijing, there could be a delay of just over 2 weeks before a 3rd US Pairs team is confirmed for Milano-Cortina, or any other fed sitting in that 4th position.

I`m guessing this is relevant for ID as well. The 5th ID team in Beijing might get a spot after all because Yukas uncertain citizenship situation. Unless Finland has another senior team to fill the spot that will get the minimums

So if entries were due last Friday, any idea when we'll get the list of competitors? I thought those usually appeared quite shortly after the due date... and I'm impatient to know. :shuffle:

No, I don't know; but since Lombardia is the week before & we just got the list of competitors for it today, within a week seems like a good hypothesis.

Hopefully we'll see the entries list soon - I was thinking we'd see it before Lombardia's entries, to be honest.

Interesting. Manni for Italy dance and not Tali. Kuperman for Israel men and Shin/Nagy got the spot for U.S. pairs.

Marsak has the spot for Ukraine men but I guess they could sub Shmuratko if he finishes higher at Lombardia.

Well, the Italian dance spot is a placeholder, same with the Ukrainian spots. It was announced by the Ukrainian fed that Lombardia is the competition to determine who actually competes in Beijing.

And the USFS better pray that ShiNagy do better under pressure than they did at either US Nats or 4CCs. Also, it wouldn't surprise me if the US entry changes after John Nicks IPC.

Looking over the entry lists more fully now...

Interesting that the FFSG has Pitot listed as their Men's entry trying to earn the 3rd spot rather than Economides. Wonder if that will change after French Masters. Also telling that the CFSA isn't even listing Xiangyi An as a substitute - they're rolling the dice on Ruiyang Zhang with Yi Zhu as the backup should Ruiyang get injured before then. And Estonia has zero confidence in Eva-Lotta to earn a 2nd spot - at least she got her trip to the Olympics in 2022.
