Steffi Graf beat Natasha Zvereva in 32 minutes 6-0 6-0 at the French Open back in 1988. Saw that one live too. Now that was something.
I was totally thinking about that match while watching this one! I think Zvereva must have felt very similar to how Anisimova felt today. But then Steffi went on to win the Golden Slam that year ... incredible.

Back in 1975, BJK annihilated Evonne Goolagong 6-0, 6-1 in the Wimbledon final! Evonne was playing well & barely got by Margaret Court in the SF who was also awful during the fortnight! :wall::40beers:

It's not unusual for players to have a let down after beating one of the top seeds and also too feel quite depleted physically. This is why semifinals are often more exciting to watch that finals, especially in the women's game. In addition to this, I think Asinimova was intimidated by the setting and the occasion. She tightened up and wasn't able to relax. I felt badly for her and was glad she was able to address the crowd at the end despite feeling really cut up about her performance. She played well against Sabalenka.

It was amazing but sad also to see a first serve completely vanish! That was crazy! I was wondering if in practice sessions Anisimova saw her first serve vanishing. I mean it was so bad I was checking the first serve percentage and at one point is was like 19% in the first set? Something insanely low like that. That’s a tight or tired arm!!

And it’s not a woman thing! Djokovic against sinner had a second serve of 16% win. So that meant when djokovic had to do a second serve sinner won that 84% of the time!

End of the second set just like the first, just with a different winner of the set. Neither guy serving at their best today, though maybe both going for too much trying to get the easy point? 🤷‍♂️

Awww, Jannick breaks Carlos' streak at Wimbledon. Not as thrilling as their battle at the French Open, but mercifully nothing like the massacre we saw yesterday on Centre Court.

DIffernt topic: Do you all find it concerning that grand slam champs have been caught with drugs in their system? Each case claimed contamination but I wonder.
These are microscopic amounts where there is no possible performance enhancement effect. So the tests are too good almost! They are trace amounts proven to be in other things. Ingredients in other things. It’s time to dramatically increase the amount required or take lots of things off the banned list.

I think both these cases are similar to the ice skater who tested positive for a banned substance that was in her mascara(?)/makeup. ...

I would say No.
The skater was totally cleared of any wrongdoing.
The testing procedure itself was at fault in her case.
WADA's testing procedure at the time was unable to distinguish a completely innocent (non-banned) cosmetic preservative from one of its banned substances, because they both metabolized into the same thing.

I believe you, I just didn't recall that being the case. I just remembered it was caused by something in her mascara/eyeliner. Yikes!
