Lengthy Rob Brodie interview with LaLa :): https://rwbrodiewrites.substack.com/p/we-know-exactly-where-we-want-to
While last season’s rhythm dance was a literal “Thriller,” filled with plenty of fun and energy, Lagha agrees the theme for the 2024-25 season — “Social Dances and Styles of the 1950s, 1960s and 1970s” — is a blank canvas that he and Lajoie can paint into something equally spectacular.

“It’s definitely as fun or even more fun than it was with Michael Jackson. It’s a thing that everybody is going to know,” he says in offering the smallest of hints about the program. “It’s going to be a lot of work as well, like kind of theatrical work, acting work, as opposed to Michael Jackson, which was more like the feeling of the essence of the music. This one, we have to do a bit more acting.”

Cross-posted from the Canadian competition thread:
More modern FD for Bashynska/Beaumont than their usual. Shazam wouldn't cooperate, so I'm not sure what the songs were, but they were all instrumental and mostly upbeat. I can't say I like this as much as their usual style, but I do love Nadiia's dress -- sparkly light blue and lavender with a fringe skirt. Fast program -- they were WINDED at the end. 101.82 FD score.

Also, here's video of their RD (thanks to @victorskid): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g75ROVvDuT8

Is her posture always... visibly questionable? Or is it just this program?

I agree with sentiment mentioned that this isn't an ideal FD, but I think they can change my mind with more miles/comfort with the program. And good on them for trying something new.

I think the first piece might be "Watarhythm" (Samba) by Watazu?

They are a dancesport band.

The whole FD is "skaters do dancesport " to CD remix?

Rob Brodie's latest column - interview with Gilles and Poirier - and a delicious rant at the end about the CAS decision :D

Literally the wildest thing to me about this Olympic cycle so far is how Sweden went from 0 ice dance teams at either the senior or junior level in 2023 to 5 - 2 in senior last season and now 3 more in junior this season.
Wonder if there is any carryover effect from the success US born pole vaulter Armand Duplantis is having in representing Sweden? Makes the representation of Sweden very visible for athletes of Swedish origins born in other countries.

Well, all three of the junior teams have at least one Canadian or American partner while the other partner is Swedish-Canadian or Swedish-American. I don't know that I think it's because of the success of Mondo so much as it is exploring other opportunities to compete internationally since the US and Canadian ice dance fields are so deep.

I really do not understand what the heck Skate Canada was thinking in keeping Gauthier/Thieren assigned to the first JGP when they were coming back from a concussion injury. They clearly weren't ready for competition yet and with 2 spots at each JGP, Canada could have easily swapped them out with another team and given them a couple more weeks before debuting. If the rationale behind dropping back down to juniors for this season is to 1) give them more competition experience and 2) hopefully qualify for the JGPF then keeping them assigned to the first JGP while recovering from injury has resulted in a strategic failure.

Bronze for Fabbri/Ayer at Denis Ten Memorial and with a score that should move them up to the 1st position on the GP Alternates List! With the withdrawal of FBSoer from their GPs and the potential injury withdrawals of some other teams, it seems pretty likely that they'll wind up with a 2nd GP, but we shall wait and see.

Summer Homick & Nicholas Buelow Q&A (Oct. 9):
... At age 13 she began pairs and after three seasons of pairs skating she transitioned into ice dance.
Nicholas started free skating in Barrie when he was 5. He started because he had siblings in the sport and he wanted to give it a try for himself. When he was 8 he was approached by his now coach David Islam as to if he wanted to try ice dance and he wanted to continue to pursue that side of the sport. He continued to do both disciplines up until the age of 13 when he switched to just ice dance.
What drew you to ice dance?
When Nicholas first started ice dance at age 8, he realized he loved the performing side of skating and wanted to continue skating with someone. Summer was approached by an ice dance coach when she was a pairs skater who told her she should consider ice dance. After a few days of tryouts for ice dance, she was so interested in the discipline and wanted to pursue it.
