Royalty thread #15: A New Era

Oddly, JLo’s Glow was a nice perfume.
Oops… I used to get Linda Lundstrom’s perfume - my most favourite perfume ever - sweet grass and sandalwood were in it. I was so sad when it discontinued. And Alfred Sung too, so I guess I have more celebrity products than I realize. :shuffle:
I don’t buy a celebrity product just because it’s from a celebrity tho, that’s just weird.

Here we go again - possibly it will be 10 pages - of posting obsessively about certain members of the Royal Family. Kinda the same stuff over and over.

It’s a really healthy thing to get off social media and rejoin real people in your lives. Just sayin. I’m sure I’ll be attacked though lol.

Well, you've just added to the discussion by telling people that they shouldn't be having a discussion, which is kind of counterproductive...

Here's change of topic: the princesses doing military service at the moment :)

Princess Elisabeth finished her training last year:

Several have mentioned celebrity fragrances, and indeed that seems to be one that can work. Years ago I met someone who worked at Loreal and she told me that celebrity fragrances were HUGE business for them - at the time Britney had one, can't recall who else. I think Elizabeth Taylor's White Diamonds is/was one of the bestselling fragrances of all time. I imagine that with the right partner - one that has the infrastructure for production, distribution and marketing - Meghan could do very well with one.

Not sure if this second effort at a "curated lifestyle brand" is the way to go though - and I'm not talking about her pre-Harry blog, but rather their short lived attempt to trademark Sussex Royal for many of the same categories of products.

Agree the brand sounds alternately like a line of scented household cleansers from Costco or one of her kids' classmates at daycare. Further, I'd say they're trying to cover a bit to much with one brand name - it's (proudly?) American, it's a nod to European glamour (the original Riviera) and it's country-cutesy but in a manor house kind of way. My initial thought is she needs to focus on doing one thing right before she expands into broader product lines, but we'll see.

Also thinking about Kate's next move. We've talked a lot about the PR and what she/KP should or shouldn't do, and I've been on the side of stick to plan and not let anyone force you off it. Wouldn't it be great - and I really hope she's recovering on schedule - if she suddenly, post Easter of course, appeared someone looking flawless and waving to crowds as though nothing had happened? I think that would do a ton to file this whole mess into a forgotten folder.

The only thing I have ever bought with a celebrity name on it was Martha Stewart paint. It was great paint!
I bought Rachael Ray Nutrish dog food once. (Or maybe it was cat food?) Whatever it was, I was not impressed though Sonic does like the Nutrish dog treats that someone gave us. OTOH, he has never turned down anything with meat in it so that's not really saying anything.

I've probably bought other things with a celebrity name but because it looked like a good product. There are products I won't even look at because of the celebrity name attached. But if I don't mind the celebrity, I'll include it in my research along with non-branded items.

Sounds good. You first. ;)

Isn't it wonderful to have choices about which threads you can read and which ones you can just skip?

Yeah, people who post on social media to criticize people for posting on social media do tend to be called out for it, especially people who post frequently on the same social media themselves.

You can can tell by my number of posts on here I’m not on here often.

5,487 posts, which just tells us how often you post, not how often you are here.

That seems like a lot of posts for someone who is lecturing others on their overuse of social media, but I guess it depends on how you define "often."

Shouldn't you be off somewhere connecting with the real people in your life?

I love this site because it connects people like myself who have an interest in skating, generally are well informed, and often very knowledgeable in things I am not, so I learn something. Over the years I have gained so much knowledge from other posters and it is so nice to have a community to share opinions even if they differ. This little outlet for me is a welcome place to talk about my passion without boring my family and friends, and believe me, they appreciate it. I have had a long term love for the royal family and Queen Elizabeth has had a huge impact on my life so I find it hard not to care or comment when their names come up.

I was all day with friends. I’m not often here either.

Britney Spears had a lingerie line years ago. I grudgingly ended up with a bra from a local shop. It’s a great bra, and it’s lasted ridiculously long - I think 10 years? - though I feel ambivalent about the thing every time I wear it.

I was going to say ... I don't like Ivanka Trump but her shoe line actually had some nice-looking, fairly well-made shoes.

Celeb lines work if it involves a skill. Like Martha Stewart’s cookware or the Roddick Pure Drive racquets from Babolat. Even Air Jordans. Like I’m not going to be an NBA player but if it’s comfortable enough for exercise…

So I used to be on primetimer. Haven't been there in over a year. TIL that the royals forum got shut down in December after a bunch of threads went way off the rails.

Thanks for sharing @airgelaal - she looks great! I know a lot of people don't trust TMZ, but I will say they check their sources (and they have many) very carefully, including even sharing the metadata from the video they received. Sure, someone could have gone to a lot of trouble to fake it, but it's a lot easier for Kate just to carry on, which she appears to be doing.

Photoshop, clone, robot? What are your version?
I'll buy it as real.
I'm sure there will be lots of new theories. I bet people are already claiming she looks too healthy and never had surgery at all.

Obviously a body double.
Alright, I'll go there... I think she looks happy and relaxed but even more rail thin than usual. I wonder if the abdominal surgery was a feeding tube for intensive eating disorder treatment. I could definitely see that as something she would want to keep private and that would require her staying out of the public eye until sufficient recovery.

People with ED also often have severe intestinal issues that require abdominal surgery.
