Remembering Gordon Pinsent (1930-2023)

Oh no! I wasn’t the most familiar with his filmography but he blew me away in Away From Her. I never forgot his performance in that movie and it has informed a lot of my own creative work.

I think Gordon Pinsent was pretty much the first big acting star I realized was a Canadian. Of course as I grew up I realized there were others before him, like Raymond Massey, Raymond Burr, Lorne Green etc., however is Pinsent one who did much more of his notable work at home and was able to parlay it into a very successful career.

I didn’t realize how old he was. He was in so many great things. He was brilliant in Away From Her. And in Due South, one of my personal favourites.
I mainly know him from Due South. He was fantastic as Fraser's ghost father. He could be funny and also moving when required. All my fb friends from Due South fandom have been posting about him today.

I remember him from Shipping News and many short appearances in Canadian TV shows like the Republic of Doyle and Private Eyes, which I think was his last TV show appearance in 2019.

What was great, is that you knew it was the renowned actor only there for a short stint, but he still found ways to make you believe the character.

Great talent.

His role in The Shipping News was so good and funny.

When they were filming in Twillingate, NL Kevin Spacey sent his bodyguards home because there was nothing for them to do.

The people in town only wanted Gordon Pinsent’s autograph and to talk to him.

Kevin Spacey, who?

 :cheer2:

Considering the recent KS info, kudos to the NL people for their discerning taste!

It was actually during the filming of “The Shipping News” in Halifax that I first heard about how “hands on” KS is with the male staff of certain places he stayed/frequented. :(

Certain places were making sure only female staff could serve him.
