I also heard they’re adding the pattern steps back. The rumors are either the midnight blues again or the silver samba.
Are you punking us? Why would they go with the Midnight Blues, which was used just last season, or the Silver Samba when this season's had a Latin theme and we've heard plenty of sambas?

I don’t have an issue with the 80s theme - but I find it strange because that is an entire decade of music? Genres of music existed in the 80s so in theory you could do absolutely anything. It could be great but I don’t understand how it’s supposed to work.

The return of the half not real pattern is wild - and I did also see that the steps will only need to be completed by one partner? Who came up with that ridiculous idea?

The isu need to move on from trying so find some kind of viral magic and just give us some great ice dancing to watch. I’d take a waltz or a folk theme - we’ve not seen anything like it for so long and I’d love to see the current teams tackle a more elegant and classical theme in the RD.

Also heard the 80's theme rumor. I think the ISU is really trying to finalize it and I am all-in.

As long as they don't use slowed-down covers of 80's songs released in 2022. Because we all know they would if they could.
Did you also hear the rumor of the dance patterns back?

I'm not opposed to decade themes in theory, but it seems unnecessary and even detrimental in this case. If the pattern is now a solo choreo sequence(?????) we might as well ditch the pattern and just be an 80s theme instead of both, as is this feels like the worst possible combo of OD and CD. I like the midnight blues just fine but I'm getting tired of it, and we're doing Latin THIS season. If they want to keep the RDs fresh, why not go bring out the waltz again, or the paso, or the yankee polka that hasn't been used in literally a decade? If we're not doing established patterns, folk dances, jive, swing, tap dance. Even the tango-the juniors are doing that right now but hey if we're going to do Latin two seasons in a row and the blues twice in three years at least the seniors get a break. I'm not even going to touch one person doing the pattern while their partner...follows them around? Holds onto them while not doing anything? Dances in place posing and blowing kisses to the judges while their partner does all the hard work? I just want to see something else!

I know there’s a tempo change requirement but for the love of all that is good, the 80s are the decade of fun slow jams, sad/romance angst new wave, and rock ballads. No need to look for slow, lethargic coffee shop/SoundCloud covers off 80s pop bops, please.

Just ask Wheaton. They found all the slow songs and used the original recordings for their junior teams that their parents probably listened to for the hip hop RDs back in 2016-17.

The more I think about it the less I understand. If they just want to do a broader theme but still have some kind of pattern for everyone to do to compare, they could have picked one of the patterns that have been gathering dust for years and just do a normal pattern IN HOLD. If they want to do away with the pattern entirely they could just do that and continue to have the choreographic sequence like they do this season. I love patterns so I would be disappointed by that direction but it would at least make some kind of logic. What's this weird half and half compromise? It just makes everything worse rather than at least committing to a direction.

I'm all for a new jive pattern & an 80s theme, personally.

From the Russia thread:
According to the media Davis/Smolkin are considering represnting Israel.
Really hope this time papaBoria gets updated with the laws and postpones their switch till at least next year - while Smolkin is entitled for a citizenship Davis (unless she can come up with a Jewish grandparent) is not for at least another year. Somehow am not optimistic about papaBoria's ability to know the laws of the country he `represents'....
If doable, this would make competitive sense for Davis & Smolkin. Provided--once again--they can get a release. (Seems more likely that Russia would eventually let them go skate for Israel than the U.S.)

Maybe they’re afraid that most skaters can’t skate in hold. In the midnight blues, you can change some holds to be easier, but that’s harder to do in a pattern like the Golden Waltz.

HIGHWAY ROBBERY Marjo and Zazh were robbed , another clear mistake a fall by the canadanes not sanctioned Skate canada should be ashamed of themselves.

Well either way so much for your theory Skate Canada was done with old, grizzled, grandpa Nik Sorensen, and were going to bend over backwards to hand the guaranteed 2026 Olympic gold medalists Lagha & Lajoie the spot at worlds over then.
