I seem to remember the assignments were released on a Sunday one year - 2009-2010. I remember because it confirmed comebacks from Shen and Zhao and Sasha Cohen (it was the first time comeback skaters were given assignments). Does anyone else remember this?

While I tend to agree with @clairecloutier about timing, it isn't as though issuing a press release or updating a website needs to be done by someone IN Switzerland. Also, these items can be pre-scheduled, to release/update at a certain time. For all we know, someone could have done all the work yesterday once the committee met and we're just waiting on some pre-agreed upon publishing time.
Yes, skaters, coaches and feds do usually find out before the list is publicly shared. At least, that's how it has worked in the past.

I only have predictions for the top three women at this stage.
I predict Loena will get France and Finland.
Kaori - NHK is obvious and I would’ve said SkAm as well but she can’t be at the same event as Mariah can she? so potentially Skate Canada then.

Bonus: Donovan Carrillo will get invited to SkAm

Kagiyama - does JPN usually put their top 2 men against each other at NHK?

100% agree with @leilaofpaper's Top 3 assignment predictions! As with the men, there's nothing that indicates to me that Karen Chen is going to compete on the GP this fall, so I think Mikutina moves up to seeded status.

I'm not clear if they promote people for the purposes of the second round of seeding, but if they do, there'll be some interesting choices depending on what the US and Canada decide to do with their host selections. The US chose to double up its seeded teams last year, so we could see Hawayek & Baker at SkAm too. Fournier Beaudry & Sorensen have, oddly enough, never competed at SCI while under the Canadian flag, but I could see the fed doing that now just to seal off competition.
If both of those things happen, then Fear & Gibson have their home Grand Prix and then have to choose whether to do a back-to-back with France (convenient for travel), a back-to-back with NHK (a preferred event for them, but also a ways to travel), or Finland (closest to the Final).

A strict reading of the GP Selection document would indicate that they move up for all of the seeded spots, but I could be wrong based on what has happened in the past. I'm not sure, though, that this year is truly comparable to past post-Oly seasons because we're also dealing with no Russians/Belarusians.
For the men - this would impact Vasiljevs & Messing, both of whom are in the WS Top 24 and are going to get 2 assignments, regardless of whether they're seeded or not.
For the women - it would impact Kurakova & Mikutina. Kurakova is in the WS Top 24, so she'll get 2 regardless of whether she's seeded or not. Mikutina, OTOH, is down at 52 on the SB, so she could wind up with only 1 initially, and probably get Yokoi a 2nd spot initially instead if the Russian/Belarusian spots aren't available, or maybe they give Paganini (SB56) one right out of the gate and put both on the Alternates List should spots open up.
For dance - it would impact Lajoie/Lagha, Turkkila/Versluis & Taschlerova/Taschler. L/L and T/V are in the WS Top 24, so they'll get 2 regardless of seeding, and T/T are SB27 so they're all but assured two.
ETA - the other problem with NOT moving skaters up in Men, Women & Dance is the Pairs competition at Worlds and the resulting retirements/splits. All 6 of the teams reported to be continuing were in the Top 10, so they're all seeded no matter what, but only one team of the Top 3 is done, so do you only move one of those teams up to Top 6 for seeding purposes? Or do you move the 6th team up to that last spot? And how do you justify not moving skaters in other disciplines up to fill spots 4-12 in Men/Women and 4-10 in dance?

Quoting myself here since @Sylvia noted in the Japanese news thread that Honda & Tsuboi are listed as Senior Men for the JSF. I didn't realize that they're both too old for the JGP. Having said that, Japan is likely to be maxed out with GP spots in the men - there are 8 men who are either seeded (3), WS Top 24 (1), SB Top 24 (1), or ranked higher on the SB Top 75 (3) - Shimada is between Tsuboi & Honda.
So, I'm going to amend my prediction and guess that Tsuboi gets 2 initially, Shimada gets 1 if the Russians aren't assigned, and Honda & Shimada are in the running for the NHK TBD host spot.

Pairs predictions seem pretty straightforward - it's gift day on Oprah! You get a GP! You get a GP! You get two GPs! Oh, you might only be one of 2 or 3 alternates, so you'll eventually get a GP!

I figured they wouldn't be competing but hadn't seen any official comment.
At this point, I'm not sure Peng/Jin are even training - they look to be busy traveling all over from their IG stories and posts.It will be really interesting to see what happens if the alternates list is completely used and no new teams win an early Challenger.

Demougeot/Le Mercier & Lagouge/Caffa are 51 & 53 and the only exception, but I'm sure that the FFSG will gladly cut a deal, as will the rest of the host feds, to ensure that as many of their teams have two assignments as possible.
Host assignments - SkAm, SCI, & 2 at GBR; Finland & Japan will throw their 3rd host spot back in the pool automatically since neither has a 3rd senior dance team.

Dance is the one discipline where unless you are VERY high up on the SB list (Kazakova/Reviya are 31), unless you're from a host country, don't hold your breath for an assignment unless it's a host spot. Demougeot/Le Mercier & Lagouge/Caffa are 51 & 53 and the only exception, but I'm sure that the FFSG will gladly cut a deal, as will the rest of the host feds, to ensure that as many of their teams have two assignments as possible.
Host assignments - SkAm, SCI, & 2 at GBR; Finland & Japan will throw their 3rd host spot back in the pool automatically since neither has a 3rd senior dance team.

I think they just posted a douyin or kuaishou video (chinese version of tiktok and whatever kuaishou is supposed to be similar to) where the fans discovered they were in Beijing. Which either means nothing since Jin Boyang is currently in three cities all at once, or it means that P/J are in Beijing. ETA: Beijing being relevant since that's where the training camp is supposed to be, I think. And W/L too.
