I know but Amber was named 1st alternate to Worlds by USFS, if memory serves. I thought Lindsay too, at first…but Lindsay was 1st alt for Olys, not Worlds. Wish it were Worlds too…not that we want anyone to become indisposed.

It's hard to believe that Scimeca-Knerim/Frazier has a good chance to be on the podium. I, on the other hand, am very excited at the prospect of a world champion who won't have Eteri in the K&C. And I'm sure the medalists will be thrilled as well.

Pretty sure she dropped her maiden name from her competitive bio in 2019. Now she's just Alexa Knierim.

You compete against whomever is given a credential. I'm sure that none of the other skaters last season were upset that they didn't have to compete against more than 3 Russian women or pairs teams.

Japan has cancelled all flights to Europe -reuters for security reasons. So Japanese skaters have to fly via US or Canada I suppose as European and Canadian airlines are banned to fly over Russia?
I can't imagine that security over Ukrainian or Russian airspace will improve over the next 3 weeks

They should be able to fly via the gulf states (Qatar, Dubai, Abu Dhabi) or Istanbul. I think this would be faster than going via the US.

Let's break it down -

Men - None of the top men will be missing: Boyang peaked a long time ago and the RUS men are penultimate group material.

Women - Everyone except Eteri & Co. will be there (JPN, KOR, USA, Louna), and I state it that way cuz there is IMO suspicion from Kamila's doping scandal on how they all are actually achieving those results. On a personal note, so much talk recently has made me unable to 'unsee' Eteri technique: poor edges, body contortions to get the jump completed, etc. I won't necessarily miss that.

Pairs - Admittedly a big absence

Ice Dance - SinKats won't be there, but all the others will be (unless they choose not to for personal reasons). Frankly, I've not paid much attn. to Ice Dance until the last 2 years, and I have to say that SinKats should not have been on the podium at the Olympics, anyway, so I won't miss them. FRA and both US teams are better than them, and I would put the CAN and ITA teams ahead too.

This is not true. Given what we know about Eteri skaters, this may be the most legitimate women's podium in a long time.

She’s very good at getting front and centre and even the global outcry of the doping didn’t give her pause for one second. Would Tutberidze agree to remain quietly in skating oblivion, particularly if this situation drags on for the long term? The economy in Russia is tanking and I don’t image Eteri’s lifestyle comes cheap.

I believe Russia closed its airspace to Japanese airlines, so even if there were flights to Europe, the airlines would have to fly via that route anyway. So, they might as well change flights there.

Will Diana Davis stay in Michigan training if international competition is ceased? How is training in US dollars going to be paid for in the current environment?

It looks like Putin is going to take Ukraine (and then who knows what next) no matter what and I’m sure the humanitarian crisis is going to be huge. No way does this blow over by next season and business as usual commences again.
