In Ladies we seem to have the three Russians Valieva, Tuktamyshevy and Khromykh with still a chance of the final. Loena Hendricks still has a mathematical chance as well.
Anyone else that I overlook?

S/K yes; G/F - maybe? If FB/S aren't as tight this week as they were at SkAm, then is it possible that they upset G/F for silver? In that scenario, then it would go to total points and I think G/F have a large enough margin to cover any surprise loss to FB/S.

Dance should pretty much be a done deal, with Stepanova/Bukin missing out on the Final.

Women can be shaken up if Hendrickx finishes 2nd or higher, and one of Kromykh or Tuktamysheva is 4th. Otherwise the three Russian women here make it as long as they all finish in the top 4 and Hendrickx isn't higher than 3rd.

Men - Kolyada and Semenenko going 1-2 and Kolyada is in, Semenenko would need to beat Brown on overall points. Semenenko winning and Kolyada 2nd - both in. Kolyada 3rd in this scenario and he may very well be in as well, since his first event score is high (vs. Brown). Only other crazy situation is Rizzo winning, someone like Kondratiuk 2nd, Semenenko 3rd, and Kolyada 4th. And then Brown and Rizzo make it.

Pairs - In this field, it's P/K's spot to lose really.

This isn't even that crazy of a scenario. There's so much :gallopin1 potential in this field!

There was a question about whether or not Khromykh injured herself at Warsaw Cup or is nursing some sort of injury because of her issues with the quads there. Her score there was only 194.02, which is very beatable by Loena and Mariah (if she doesn't fall on her combo in the SP), TBH.

Say you have something like Valieva winning, Tuk 2nd, Hendrickx 3rd, Bell 4th, Khromykh 5th - then it would come down to total points between Hendrickx and You for the last spot.

Unlikely, but theoretically possible and, as you say, G/F would almost certainly win in the tie-break.
FB/S scores this season: 194.67 (CS Austria), 190.13 (SkAm), 185.26 (Lombardia)
G/F scores this season: 208.88 (CS Austria), 200.05 (SkCan), 205.36 (Lombardia)

Jason is on the bubble, and I think will wind up as 1st alternate because Semenenko will get the tie-breaker score he needs skating on home turf.

I think the Italians make it to the GPF in Ice Dance, too. Interesting that they will get in ahead of S/B, whom they are behind in most people's minds. Maybe it will be the breakthrough they need.

~268 (11 points better than his seasons best) is the score he would need... which seems a tall order for Semenenko even with home cooking scores?

Trust me. I would love to see Jason in the GPF, but ... Russia politik in an Olympic year is a major force.

Maybe itā€™s likely that Kolyada can underperform big time but still place second with Semeneko getting first with a ā€œrealisticā€ score for him. Whatever home cooking can happen, I will wonder if it will be on par with what Grassl got at GP Italy.

ETA: Women will most likely be 5 Russians with Sakamoto. Poor Kaori.

Well personally I wouldn't call that just edging them out since Gui/Fab had 26 points from 2 second placements and Ste/Buk had 22 points from 2 third placements. That is, after all, the 1st tie-breaker. They were definitely close though on the second tie-breaker of total scores.

So the men are:
1. Kagiyama JPN (30)
2. Uno JPN (28)
3. Zhao USA (28)
4. Chen USA (26)
5. Kolyada RUS (26)
6. Brown USA (24)

Alternates
1. Sato JPN (22)
2. Kvitelashvili GEO (20)
3. Cha KOR (18)

Strange to see Nathan with number four in front of his name. Great that all three US men go to the final. Will all three of them retire after this though? Then who do we have in the pipeline? Senior-Wise

That is the subject of a lot of speculation. I think Nathan wants a life outside of skating and Vincent has delayed admission to an Ivy League school (I think), so I think it's quite possible that both are gone after 2022. Jason has been thru 3 Olympic cycles and IMO, he has maxed out what he can show us on the ice, so it also wouldn't be surprise me if he also retires. But Ilia Malinin seems to be a wunderkind, and will likely bear the torch for team USA for the future, but it looks like for the time being that he is the only one who can keep up w. the youngsters coming from JPN

There's this guy named Ilia but no one on the board really seems to talk about him about for some reason.
Wow. I watched his skate at Linz...what a talent. He has all kinds of potential to be great. Quick rotations on the quads. Music was somewhat dull but his skating was so interesting it didn't matter and for me, that's impressive. Will be watching this young man.

Of course, Iā€™m a big Ilia fanā€¦but what happened to Yaro Paniot after his weird withdrawal from an early challenger in Sept? Will cross-post this in US Menā€™s thread.
