Skate Canada hosted events + CBC live stream - who will commentate?

I've already found the archived Skate America videos. They are not on Gem. They are on cbc.ca. They are free and you don't need to sign up.

I was more talking about the Olympic archives mentioned before by the person who said they had to pay on Gem. I am aware that they have always archived all the Grand Prix streams they had the rights to that they were available free at cbc.ca, (i.e. everything except Skate Canada when rights were held by CTV).

Wait, so is it possible I can get full event sports archives on the Apple TV CBC Gem app if I subscribe? I've only ever seen live sports through Apple TV and thought you were stuck with the CBC Sports iOS app (which is a spoilers minefield) otherwise.
 
I've never had to pay for anything on Gem :confused: For some programs - ones that were on Gem but weren't broadcast on CBC-TV - we had to sign up and use the account to watch them. But it didn't cost anything to sign up or to watch the program.

I just checked my Gem app and there’s no section for sports events in the show archive. It just looks like documentaries and regular shows or movies. I’m afraid you’re probably still going to have to go through the spoiler minefield that is the CBC Sports app for archives. The live competitions are under live TV and then just scroll until you find what you’re looking for.

ETA: Gem is free, I pay the $5/month to stream things after they air without commercials because I lack patience but for live stuff if they put commercials in, which CBC frequently does, then you’ll be watching commercials.
 
Thanks @Jay42 . I knew there was something that cost money on Gem but I was pretty sure that it wasn't just watching the shows.
 
I downloaded Gem after hearing all of the commentators, heh. Now, you don't need it? No wonder I couldn't find any skating content on the app last night.

I will see if my new Ipad will allow me to watch the streaming on my television. I am such a novice, wish me luck!
 
Re in/out privileges.
Our tickets say there will be none. Once we're scanned in that's it - for the entire time :eek:
I've left phone messages with the manager of the arena and some person at Skate Canada BC/YK division (who are all not answering their phones because they're at the arena.)
I've tweeted at Skate Canada, and left a comment on the BC/YK FB page.
Hopefully this will get sorted.

That is so odd.

I went to Sectionals last week here in my city and we had in and out privileges.

We got an arm band on entry to say we were checked for vaccine passport and just showed that upon re-entry.
 
I'll be interested to hear from our Canadian fans what they think of the new commentors in this weekend's coverage!

"Excellent, honest and compassionate"? I'd be happy just with "excellent" and "honest". "Honest" can include being empathetic with the skaters too. "Compassionate" sounds too much like "uncritical".
 
I want informative. As per the JGPs and Skate America, I feel both Ted and Mark do an excellent job at commentating on where points were lost - eg. clean rotations. They obviously have an insider look at the judges sheets and what is being reviewed. Dance is where it gets sticky. Tanith is excellent. I consider myself a fairly ardent fan but I really want a real dance expert on the microphone for dance.

I know that and really enjoy Mark. Kaitlyn I have yet to hear commentate on dance. I realize she is a dancer. I mentioned Tanith because I not only respect her knowledge base but I also like her manner.

Kaitlyn is an expert at skating Ice dance but has she ever trained as a dance tech specialist? The skaters do not always know the ins and outs of calls nor stay up to date with every rule change since they retired.

I chose the print at home option for my tickets and don't see any mention of no in/out privileges??? :yikes:

It is in all the fine print on my print at home tickets. I wasn't too worried because at the other events there, you just needed to get scanned out and scanned back in. If it's truly no in/out, it will be hell for Rosaleen and other smokers, because her ticket was scanned every time she went out.

Got it. It’s showing up for me now too. So happy I can watch on my TV without having to try to figure out a way to MacGyver a hookup for my laptop. (Very boring explanation - it’s not complicated technically, but my tv is located above the fireplace, where there is no room for a laptop and I don’t have any chairs or tables high enough to make the laptop easily accessible to the TV.) Anyway, I’m having a friend over to watch tomorrow, so another reason I am especially happy I can stream it on my TV.
