Skate Canada hosted events + CBC live stream - who will commentate?

Considering that we had no live stream when CTV was the broadcast partner, I'm all for this improvement :)
If they weren’t showing it livestreamed on the CBC.ca I’m pretty sure we would have gotten the YouTube stream on the ISU YouTube channel.

I’m not a fan of live stream on CBC.

Unfortunately, I always get buffering and freezing.

YouTube is so much better.
I have the same issue, year after year! CBC's feed is always freezing, stopping, buffering, but the ISU YouTube stream never does. I thought it was just me! I will miss hearing the skaters commentate, and it sucks because it would be nice if we could be counted into CBCs viewers but their streaming sucks.

Plus CBC makes you sit through two or three ads before you actually get the stream. And if you have to log off for some reason, when you log back on you have to sit through the ads again. At least on YouTube you can skip part or all of the ads.

I think we still can. I see the Skate Canada YouTube streams available when I look at what is upcoming on the ISU channel.

It looks like neither Peacock nor YouTube will be livestreaming the practices, as far as I can tell. :(
It's possible Skate Canada may have them on Dailymotion, I think they've done that before. But I haven't seen anything about it so don't count on it.

Ugh, yeah, I can’t either anymore, I could earlier today. Guess I will pay for a CBC Gem subscription since I already used my free trial on the Olympics and it’s worth the $5 to watch on my TV on the Gem app rather than my computer.
You don't have to pay for Gem

Also BTW Skate America was archived on CBC (tho not on Gem - search Skate America on cbc.ca). I'm hoping the same with Skate Canada so I can watch it later to hear all those cool Cdn skaters doing commentary :D

You do for certain things - there is a premium subscription and certain things are paywalled. Maybe these streams won't be. I think it was either the Olympic archives I wanted to watch were paywalled or something on the Apple TV app was, but there was definitely a reason I used the free trial. It may be a non-issue though because it looks like streaming sports on there may have been an Olympic-only thing.

It must have been Apple TV. You only pay for Gem if you want to go ad-free. But also if you're wanting to watch the archived Skate America footage it's on cbc.ca (so no payment needed) not on cbc gem.

Yeah, I can see that now. I assumed it would be available on both, like the Olympic streams were. I want to watch things on my TV, not my computer. I would pay $5 to do that. But it doesn’t look like it’s even an option.

I guess I can HDMI my laptop to my TV but I really don’t have a good setup for that. I should have gone to Skate Canada in person after all!

Thanks for the Gem information.

I just downloaded it on my TV.

Looks like you don’t have to pay for it.

Yippee. :cheer2:

Let me know if you find any sports streaming information on it. So far I haven’t seen it, but maybe I’m not looking in the right place. (Or maybe it’s just because it’s during the week when there aren’t sporting events going on…)

I found it under Live TV, Sports.

It was giving me a countdown saying 28 hours to go. Lol…

CTV aired Skate Canada in its entirety. Canadians was another matter….
Just a point of clarification, from my memories today on FB:
"I'm sitting here literally yelling at my television - the live free skates for ladies at #SCI17 started over 50 minutes ago. CTV/TSN went on air 26 minutes later and are spending all their time reviewing yesterday, etc. I want to see what's happening NOW!!
Now they say they're going to the ladies free skate - the whole first group is done"

"Prepare yourselves to be "robbed" of seeing some of the men skating at #SCI17 - the TSN/CTV broadcast begins at 7 p.m. but the skaters take the ice 10 minutes before that for the 6 minute warm-up. You just know that they will have to spend time reviewing what happened yesterday and earlier today before they show us any live skating."

This was often my complaint of the CTV/TSN coverage where they opted to reshow things that had already been broadcast, rather than showing everything, and they failed to provide a live stream.

my 2 cents - my memory of how GEM works for tv series is current season broadcasts, no subscription required. Older stuff, have to sign up. For sports I think it was live events are free but archives are not.

Oh that's too bad :( I'm only set up for HDMI so it works well for me.
Not too late to get tickets :D
