Nathan's taking free program music suggestions! https://www.instagram.com/p/CP6nzaZrZK_/?utm_medium=copy_link

Of course Jackie Wong said "Feelin' Good."
Jackie Wong, lol!

I answered Nathan. Because I think he skates well to big, epic, classical pieces (i.e., The Rite of Spring, Polovtsian Dances), I suggested the following:

1) Alexander Nevsky by Prokofiev
2) Requiem by Giuseppe Verdi
3) Carmina Burana by Orff.

(Because I'm so sure he will jump to consider my suggestions, lol!)

Which part of Verdi's Requiem are you suggesting?

Catching up on Nathan news...

On June 29 was assigned to back-to-back Grand Prix competitions: Skate America in Las Vegas (Oct. 22-24) and Skate Canada International in Vancouver (Oct. 29-31).

He is back in Sun Valley, Idaho to perform in their 4th of July holiday show with fireworks later tonight - from the Sun Valley On Ice summer shows thread in GSD:
According to a fan who is at the rink, Nathan will skate to Caravan and Rocketman - no new programs.
I've copied out a touching Instagram post by Nathan's first coach in Salt Lake City, Stephanee Grosscup: https://www.fsuniverse.net/forum/threads/2021-sun-valley-on-ice-summer-shows.108393/#post-6017282

His Japanese fan account has shared photos & clips from the Instagram accounts of these pro skaters:
Craig Heath: https://twitter.com/NathanChenJP/status/1411417377808392192
Angela Wang ("Flipping with some random skater I’ve never heard of 😉"): https://twitter.com/NathanChenJP/status/1411416181416755202

Machine translated from Japanese - "Sun Valley On Ice Nathan Chen practice Caravan Saxophone Run-through WEB camera (no sound) 4T 3Lz 3F" (tweeted clip): https://twitter.com/NathanChenJP/status/1411420932522930176

ETA:

Found a 44-second clip posted on the Sun Valley Ice Shows FB page of Nathan practicing the first part of "Caravan" before the show (landed 4T & 3Lz):

Since Nathan was asking for music suggestions for his programs, I suggested the theme from "Dragon: The Bruce Lee Story" for his FS. I think he could do a brilliant job interpreting that musical tribute to the legendary martial arts movie star! It's at once dramatic, poignant AND Olympian! That said, I personally love his Elton John FS and I wish that he had kept it for the Olympic season - as well as his "La Boheme", for the short! Anyway, I'm sure that he and his choreographers will come up with two spectacular programs again!

Nathan and Angela Wang do side-by-side back flips:

His looks more like a whip back while hers is a back tuck.

This music would absolutely devalorize Nathan's skating and invite comparison to Stojko,a far inferior skater.

@skateboy clearly has refined taste and I approve of his suggestions.

I disagree. First of all, many fans from younger generations don't even remember or are aware of Stojko or his skate to that theme. A superior skater like Nathan could easily make that theme music, or any other for that matter his own! And I take offense at your implying that I don't have refined taste! I've nothing further to say to you.

Nathan continues his support for the homeless kids in Orange County by helping the StandUp for Kids Orange County having some fun time on ice in his rink, with the help Andrew and other Team Raf kids the past weekend.

IG post from standupforkids-orangecounty

Thanks to Nathan and his friends, StandUp for Kids Orange County youth experiencing homelessness were able to get on the Ice Skating rink this past weekend! ⠀
This event provided the opportunity to learn from a three-time World Champion in figure skating. Moments like these give our youth a sense of love from their community, hope in they can do anything they set their mind to, and fun in enjoying life to the fullest.

He previously posted to help with the fundraising event of the organization

I have mixed feelings - If he is repeating programs that is OK in and of itself if the programs are good.

I am fine with Nathan repeating 'Caravan' because that was possibly his best SP ever.

I actually prefer his 2018-19 LP and the Phillip Glass 2020-21 LP to 'Rocket Man'. I think 'Rocket Man' is entertaining, but if he wants to repeat a program, the Phillip Glass one program skated well in front of an audience has the potential to be other-worldly in a way that 'Rocket Man' doesn't. Phillip Glass is tense and dramatic while 'Rocket Man' is fun. I think the former is more of an Olympic program

He spoke to Tanith for the ISU Awards show about the 2 new programs he's preparing ("they should be done quite soon"): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OxK-FQDTPYI

Is this hypothetical? He just announced that he had just finished his short and was in the process of working on hid long program. BTW, I agree with you about his Glass long program, but I wonder if it's too intellectual for the general public. Bu then again, Adam Rippon's Arrival of the Birds was a huge hit and that's somewhat abstract.

OK. I thought someone upthread posted he was reusing those programs. Disregard what I posted.

I am afraid one look at that crudely animated snowglobe illustration of yours only confirms my initial assumption was quite accurate.

No need to take offense, dear. Some of us have taste. Some of us simply do not.

Nathan put up an interesting piece of commentary labeling figure skating as being feminine as opposed to hockey labeled as masculine. He apologized for a prior statement he had made during an interview yesterday.

Here's the source interview:

I've been seeing stuff floating around on twitter about this, and for me I didn't read into it the same things other people did (although I did think that was he said was...not good), but I can also see why people were upset. I think he's sincere about his apology, but I'm not sure that will matter to some. 🤷‍♀️
