2021 ISU World Team Trophy, April 15-18, Osaka, Japan

Excerpted from Moore-Towers/Marinaro's pre-Worlds media conference call today: https://twitter.com/fsonline/status/1371530768544100354
After Worlds, MT/M need to complete a 2-week quarantine in Canada. Because of this, they decided to pass on doing World Team Trophy (assuming it happens). They would need to leave for WTT one day after finishing quarantine & it's just too tight.

"We always look forward to going to World Team Trophy," MM said. "But it's just not going to be feasible this year."
ETA: Walsh/Michaud might be willing to make the trip (despite the quarantine) to earn some $$$ and enjoy the experience?

Teams get to send two singles.

So, Nguyen and maybe Daleman could go to WTT.

ISU looks at World Rankings for the WTT

Canadian Men are well up there:

12Keegan MESSING
14Nam NGUYEN
38Stephen GOGOLEV
39Roman SADOVSKY
44Joseph PHAN

but the Ladies are another story:

67
Alison SCHUMACHER
76
Alicia PINEAULT
86
Emily BAUSBACK
100
Gabrielle DALEMAN
106
Veronik MALLET
151
Madeline SCHIZAS
175
Kaiya RUITER
177
Michelle LONG

Pineault is out for the season, Bausback and Schizas will be at Worlds and in the predicament that is making other Canadians opt out. Pretty much leaves Schumacher and Daleman as likely choices in that event, as Ruiter is not yet 15.

I can't remember if Mallet was in the Worlds monitoring talk, but I don't think she was. She doesn't have a full set of triples nor a 3+3 and I think that's what SC was especially interested in.

So pretty much it'll be a competition with the alternate entries to worlds. So which country hasea really good shot for the gold if it takes place? My guess is either Russia or the US

I don't know that every country will not send their Worlds team. We've only heard Canadian skaters saying this so far, yes? With the mandatory 2 week quarantine after traveling, it makes sense that it doesn't work for Canadian skaters, but not every country has that quarantine requirement right?

Not every country has a 14-day quarantine requirement upon returning. So if the Canadian team member does not live and train in Canada, I suppose they could be sent to WTT. But WTT would be an amazing opportunity for some top Canadian skaters to finally get the international exposure they need and that has been on hold for a year.

What’s interesting is whether Japan will impose a 14-day quarantine requirement upon entry. So that would be 14 days quarantine in Japan, then 14 days upon return to Canada. 28 days of quarantine. That’s not easy for anyone. These skaters are young, some of them are minors, some are still in school and live with their family and might need an adult family member to quarantine with them. Just another layer to consider.

Apparently Keegan Messing mentioned that he was disappointed that he won't be at WTT. I wonder why not, as he doesn't live in Canada and therefore won't be subject to a 14-day quarantine when returning from Worlds.

I wonder if it’s possible for the US skaters who are going to get the J&J shot. Vaccination will be open to all in many states starting soon.

I suppose that Italy could beat Canada in men too. They have to strong men with high scores at worlds, and you count two men
Yes, and both Italian men find themselves in the final warm-up group for the short!

I'd actually like to see Italy earn three spots in men next season. They certainly have the talent between Rizzo, Grassl and Frangipani to deserve three spots. But, so does Russia, the US, Canada and Japan. I don't think the results can fall just perfectly enough for all of those countries to earn 3 spots (I don't think Canada can with only 1 entrant this year), not especially when you factor in China's two strong men, Aymoz, Kvitelashvili, Vasiljevs.

When will they announce the team composition do you think? Curious to see which guy Canada sends and if P/K end up going. How crazy would it be if they sent Aliona K?

I wonder who the US will send...

Men - Will Nathan or Jason want to travel again? Jason is going to have to quarantine when he gets back to Toronto, so either he's going to need to come back to the US or go directly to Japan to train for a few weeks. I'm guessing Nathan will feel more comfortable about traveling to Japan than he did about going to Sweden. Vincent is injured. Tomoki? Jimmy Ma would be a crowd pleaser, that's for sure.
Ladies - Karen's earned it, for sure, if she wants to go. I assume Bradie can get her boot issues straightened out. If not those two - Amber? Mariah?
Pairs - I would imagine that K/F get the nod, but maybe C/J get it instead, since they couldn't make it to Worlds?
Dance - H/D would be the obvious ones but they, like the rest of the Montreal teams, face quarantine issues in returning to Canada, so, who knows?

Italy -
Men - Rizzo, Grassl
Ladies - Gutmann, Tornaghi?
Pairs - DM/G
Dance - G/F

Japan -
Men - Kagiyama, Hanyu
Ladies - Kihira, Sakamoto
Pairs - M/K
Dance - K/K

China -
Men - Yan, Jin
Ladies - Chen, Lin???
Pairs - C/P (guessing that S/H will pass since they aren't skating in the Worlds Gala)
Dance - W/L

Russia - I can't see any of these skaters turning it down and I think the RSF will reward Semenenko for his top 10 finish
Ladies - Shcherbakova, Tuktamysheva
Men - Kolyada, Semenenko
Pairs - M/G
Dance - S/K

It's possible H/D go back to home in the States first, then fly to Japan.
