Wow. Apparently, they just took off from Denver, had catastrophic engine failure and landed safely, but pieces of the engine fell all over subdivisions between Denver and Boulder. One piece of the engine cowling landed on some poor souls vehicle, just missing their house. They keep talking about planes "injesting stuff---mostly a flock of birds" and I have visions of the plane eating birds and spitting out the bones along with the engine.

It was apparently quite loud. We are really lucky that the weather was meh, because that park where a bunch of the debris landed is normally really crowded. The other day there were lots of kids playing in the snow, much of which has now melted. The dog park part of the park is also typically busy.

Super glad nobody was hurt. And, yeah, I expect that the pilots will knock back a few stiff ones tonight.

Passengers too. One of them filmed the engine on fire. Apparently, the pilot's biggest problem was the fuel and having to dump it in order to safely land. The news just said so far there are no reported injuries from the debris. A lot of people had a lucky day.

I think it's weird there are no links to the story in this thread. So I went looking for them. This is two days old but I couldn't find anything newer:

https://www.denverpost.com/2021/02/22/united-airlines-flight-328-broomfield-plane-debris/ <==Police: please don't call us about tiny parts of planes; we want the big stuff only. (Gives a sense of how much debris fell. Lots.)

. <== Oops, they did it again. Now that a couple planes with this model of engine have done similar things, we're grounding them until we figure this out.

https://denver.cbslocal.com/2021/02...age-united-airlines-flight-328-damage-denver/ - it caused a hole in the body of the plane, making this a much more serious event.
