Let's Talk Movies #36 - 2020 - Yep it is a new decade

I rented Dr. Strange from Netflix dvd but I couldn’t stand it. Stopped after one minute. Part of it may be that I am having to watch movies on a portable DVD player right now. If I see it in a theatre or even on my tv, it won’t be so bad.
The other part may be that I just don’t like those kinds of movies.

Dr. Strange is not my cup of tea and I don't think seeing on the big screen would change that.

I will watch Benedict Cumberbatch in anything.

I haven't watched Bull Durham in ages and it still has to be my favorite film about sports. That script was so good and still holds up today imho.

Same. I even watch the movies in which he does voice acting just so I can listen to him talk. I've got it bad. :)

This looks REALLY good. I'm excited.

I remember my older cousins “tricking” me and other cousins to watch the original Candyman movies. I was like 8 or something. Omfg, talk about traumatic. Plus, they made it sound like some kids movie about a man and candy a la Willy Wonka.

I wasn't sure where to post this, but since it's related to movies, I thought I would post it in here. During all the madness, I started a movie podcast with a friend of mine. It's focused on monster movies, disaster films and some horror flicks. If you happen to like those types of movies, check it out at runforyourlivespodcast.com. So far, we've looked at Jurassic Park, Cloverfield and Tremors.

New rumours has it that Namor will be in The Eternals movie and the main villain will be someone named Kro. Don’t hold your breath for a trailer anytime soon...

The fact that Disney/Marvel chose Chloe Zhao to direct The Eternals is such an inspired decision. She’s a super independent filmmaker who is inspired by the likes of Terrance Malick that it would have been just as amazing if they got Malick himself to do a superhero movie. Both directors push the boundaries of narrative structure that we see in western-style storytelling that I wonder how much of it Disney/Marvel will allow.

So did Tenet kill movie theaters? This guy seems to think so:

I certainly hope that movies can make a comeback. But until there's an effective vaccine, I think large-scale releases are going to continue to be pushed back. I think Tenet did quite well, considering the massive handicap.

I am confident cinemas will make a comeback. I for one cannot imagine watching my favourite movies for the first time anywhere else but on the big screen and most certainly am not paying $35 to watch it at home. I miss the whole movie going experience and can’t wait go back!
