I really feel for them. I had to cancel my event because there was no way to hold it safely and still make money. Or even break even. Now when the event date rolls around, maybe it will turn out that many restrictions have been lifted and we could have held it after all. But I have to start spending money NOW. It's not worth continuing with all the uncertainty. And I only have to worry about 1 venue in one county, not many regulations in many places all over the world with people traveling all over the world to participate.
If the ISU does hold GP events, there is a good chance they will lose a ton of money. If they hold them and one of them becomes a hotspot, they can lose more than money. Organizations tend to be risk-averse. Holding an international series of events is not the same thing as an individual deciding whether or not to go to a bar.
Fun fact, ISU is not holding the events, the local federations (organizations) are. At least for JGP and GP
