So, my daughter (who is a young adult, but my kid, thus the heading ;) ) took all the suggestion and feedback from the other thread to heart.

She created a brochure about herself, her teaching philosophy, her experience as well as lesson expectations. She put together some special prices for summer (6 lessons for a discount) and included info on the brochure that when a student wants to/is ready to move on to a higher level coach, she would be glad to make introductions and suggestions.

She is also creating a weekly email answering common questions for new parents and providing links to outside resources. She is going to keep in touch with parents on a regular basis with progress reports and to answer questions, talk about goals.

Since she's done that, she has 8 new students. :)

Well done to her. This is not only good for her coaching but a great life lesson and will give her skills that she will be able to take into her working life. Add those to your resume any employer is going to be interested and makes her very employable.

We have a young coach at our rink who I have known for quite a few years as a judge. She has a very supportive mother who helps her daughter. But she is a very smart girl who has really been making a success of it. Ours is a very small rink in a small city in Australia so there is a limited market. She is teaching the learn to skate but has also got a small group of private lessons as well as doing a session for older skaters once a week where she does group lessons. She has been out promoting skating and her classes. Not only this but she is studying to be a paramedic. All this is just setting her up for success in life. You can only wish her the best.

It's a little gung-ho, but she's young and enthusiastic. :) Some of the older coaches poo-pooed it all, but I told her that when I was a young skating parent, I would have loved the information presented that way. :)
You do get that from those who have been around for years.
