The other thread was over 1000 posts, so I figured now is the best time to make the 6th ShibSibs thread. It looks like the Shibs found their paradise with the best performances of their career and came away with a bounty of two Olympic medals.

Thanks to @Sylvia, we have links to the previous 5 Shibutani threads:

Prologue: @Vash01's first ShibSibs fan thread back in June 2009 --- link to the archived thread: https://www.fsuniverse.net/forum/threads/maia-alex-shibutani.66656/

#1 (March 2014-Jan. 2016): The Shibutanis Thread

#2 (Jan.-Dec. 2016): Lights Will Guide You Home

#3 (Dec. 2016-Oct. 2017): Evolution

#4 (Oct. 2017-Jan. 2018): Ready for Paradise

#5 (Jan. 2018-Feb. 2018): Cinco...Mambo!

For any newbies, here are some links to their various social media accounts:

@chapis , I noticed that you shared some Shibs fan art in the Goldenskate thread, would you mind reposting them here?

I found a nice one that I think really captures them:

Another one:

I also like this pic taken by Guillaume Cizeron of Maia and Gabriella Papadakis sharing an Oreo with Jun Hwan Cha photo bombing in the biggest way possible:

I loved how at the end of the Gala, Yuzuru grabbed Maia into the biggest hug ever before the giant gala group hug:

Our broadcaster decided to upload only 4 videos from the whole Gala to their channel and Alex and Maia´s exhibition was one of them, they were the only ice dancers:rollin::respec:.

I liked this comment:
Tanto deporte bonito que existe en el mundo, pero acá en latinoamérica, la gente nada más piensa en futbol.
So many beautiful sports that exist in the world, but here in Latin America, people only think in soccer. (This person reads my mind )

Just thought I'd link the performance where everything really changed for them:

Oh wow, thanks for posting that. I still remember that hug Alex and Maia had in the KnC after their scores came up, and how he just looks at her and nods. Ondrej Nepela was such a rough competition and they must have questioned the direction they were going, or if they should even continue, after that. Getting those scores and Skate Canada really was such a monumental step in the right direction. They've come so far.

And it's growing into the mainstream. Their success and ability to capture the attention of the country has been nothing but incredible for the bigger Asian-American community, many of whom never even thought about winter sports much less figure skating.

I really hate to be a wet blanket. But does anyone think it's possible now that the Shibs have an Olympic medal, the judges will drop them if they stick around for next season? I know that sort of happened with Linichuk & Karponosov in 1981. This is just something that popped into my head suddenly and it has me kind of worried for them. I really hope it doesn't happen.

I mean, it’s not like they haven’t already tried. Multiple times. And failed to make them go away every time. At this point I literally have no worries on that front anymore and the judges should just give up on that hopeless cause

The Shibs will go away (from competitive skating) when they want to go away and not a moment sooner.
