Yes, P/C getting a level 4 on the midline is not going to happen - I still don't understand the GOEs for what is by far their weakest element. With the kind of tech panels we've usually seen in recent years, V/M would get a level 4 and a 1.5 point advantage right off the bat. A harsher tech panel could actually help P/C a lot if they can hit their other elements. If they get the same levels as V/M in the SD and skate clean, I'm pretty sure the gold is theirs.

Still, V/M did all they could with two really strong skates. Probably too late to change the narrative at this point but a big improvement over Sochi, where it was clearly all over after the team event.

I was just curious to see why you thought that was the case? Is it that P/C have stronger elements in the SD than V/M that they’ll score better with a tougher tech panel?

I think they mean that there are certain elements V/M have always had an automatic advantage on in the SD that P/C get Level 3s on, like the NtMiSt. If the panel are being really really picky with V/M (I really don't know why their step sequence lost a level in the TE) and leave P/C at a Level 3 then suddenly that advantage evaporates and it's down to PCS, which P/C are inexplicably winning.

They don't have a prayer of winning unless they're 2 points up in the SD, and they won't be 2 points up if that tech panel doesn't give them all their levels.

agreed! but, with all the media attention that V&M have now, if P&C make any visible errors and the judges still place them ahead of V&M, there will be an outcry, most definitely.

Oh I don’t know about that. Maybe people will feel that PC’s programs are more magical and deserved to win, or will be consumed by Guillaume’s hotness and won’t care about the skating at all.

Speculating about things so far beyond control is hard. I’m glad people like watching ice dance though!

This is why I'd like to see a replay of the step sequences using the cameras that the tech panel relies on to assign levels. Furthermore, the tech panel should also indicate exactly where a team lost a level, provide that to the broadcasters who can then explain to viewers (of course, if the commentators disagree they should voice their opinion). This is one way to make the tech panel more accountable, but I doubt this will ever happen.

Strangely enough, I've never noticed the "hotness", will have to pay more attention during the short dance to all teams!~;) The short dance will be quite telling about which team will be the Gold medallists!

I must admit I get carried away by Gullieme's hotness sometimes lol..please forgive me..

However..as much as I love Ed Sheeran & the 2 songs they skate to by him..there SD is NO WHERE NEAR the level of V&M & they should be AT LEAST 2 points ahead going into the free dance..BUT since they seem to want P&C to have that Gold..they OVER mark their SD which is a total joke but has happened all season..

V&M have by far the better SD & that is not even up for discussion!

Virtue and Moir are the top skater searches! Although I'm pretty sure the true graphic does not end in the shape of a heart ;)

I'm hopeful for the ice dance individual. I do think the French have a wonderful long program that will be appealing to the masses. If they are held up in the SD, they could well win the long. I could see the response being a wistful, "Virtue and Moir were amazing, but the French were good too", as people would just assume their program was as technical strong. However, I also think Virtue and Moir have a lot of momentum right now. Can't wait to see them skate lights out.

The French are amazing..but being honest V&M if they skate clean & lights out in the long they should be the winners NO question..their program is just so much more unique & special, the French do the same thing every year to different music..that is something that can't even be argued but needs to be said, they are not artistic or creative when they choose the same similar routine every year..

V&M should be at least 2 points ahead after the SD cause they have the FAR superior SD no question but the judges want it close so they over mark that damn Ed Sheeran program consistantly..it's SHAMEFUL!
 
Let's all wait and see how it goes down. What I wish for V&M is 2 wonderful awesome skates that they are proud of. If that happens let the chips fall where they may. They've been amazing and they will be amazing you'll see. They have lots of experience and they've been at the Olympics before. They seem so wonderfully calm this time.
 
We haven’t seen P/C judged by this tech panel. I’m hopeful that for once this season they will be marked for the actual skate they put down. No way should they be within 3-4 points of V/M with that SD if V/M skate clean.

Everyone’s assuming the GP will go wild over P/C program. I think it’s just as possible it falls flat. So many people are now invested in T/S. And I agree that they have such interest and momentum that if anything appears fishy all hell might break lose. Shades of SLC. I just feel a boatload of people know about them now and love the MR program. If it appears to the GP that they skated well (and remember most have no idea what the requirements are for scoring) the GP will be upset they didn’t win. Again shades of SLC, when S/P were “robbed”. I do think all the attention may be dramatically changing the dynamic, meaning no more fixing of scores for a predetermined outcome as too many eyes are watching now. Kudos to Sxott and Tessa for dedicating thrmselves to the TE which created the majic! And agree with Tanith that they’ve soaked up all the attention.
 
I'm envious of you guys that will watch live. Just thinking about it makes me want to hurl. I'll be following everyone's comments and that should be enough to know how things are going lol.

I feel very confident in their training. Sometimes when you watch a champion skate onto the ice when their name is called, you can tell by their carriage that they are going to skate clean. I feel that way about Virtue and Moir now, especially since they have had a week off to analyse their performances with their team. Their jar of rice is overflowing.

I don't come on here very often but I thought I would check out this thread as I adore both V/M & P/C.
I just can't believe the arrogance of SOME V/M fans. You really think they are entitled to win because you love them or if P/C win it's a fix ?. It's just so wrong. V/M are amazing but so are other couples. This thread has turned into a slating P/C rather than a celebration of V/M.
If P/C win it's because they deserve it, not because the judges have fixed it. If V/M win it's because they deserve it , not because they are entitled to it.
Four years ago I desperately wanted V/M to win but did not cry fix because D/W did. Other couples are allowed to be amazing & win too. It's the entitlement on here which is disturbing.
Do any of you enjoy watching other Ice Dance couples or do you just watch to wish other couples fail so V/M win ?.

I'm not from a powerhouse figure skating country. I don't want other couples to fail. I don't want V/M to win if they fall on their faces and don't deserve it. I enjoy P/C's many qualities. I like a lot of other couples- H/D and H/B are particular favourites.

But I have decades of experience in this sport and care about it deeply. Therefore, what I want most of all is fair, transparent judging. And I do not believe that P/C's normal level of performance scoring higher PCS and many of their elements higher GOEs over V/M's normal level of performance is demonstrative of fair or transparent judging. I want them to win if they go clean because, from experience, I genuinely believe them to be the superior skaters with the superior programs. If both go completely clean and P/C win I will not feel that it was earned, and yes, looking at the protocols for both teams across the season I do believe that there is at least a bit of the usual figure skating skullduggery afoot. Call that arrogance if you want.

To answer your question: I watch other ice dance couples and, you won't believe it, even like some of them. However, I think PC are totally overrated. When I watch them, I'm just so bored. Not even a minute in I grab my cellphone or start doing something else. They don't capture my attention at all. Besides that, I also don't like their personality. In my opinion, VM are way better than them (technically and artistically) and when both skate clean, VM should be the clear winner in a fair competition. So, now sue me.

They look so much more carefree this time round even though they're not idiots and they've got to know they're not the favourites as it was in Sochi. So I might hold off on my grouching about bs judging (lol no I won't) just because they seem at peace with their skating and with themselves now. It's lovely to see.

I too have decades of watching this sport & yes to believe that your favourite couple can only be beaten if it's a fix is arrogance.

This is the only forum I'm on, so I don't know anything about Golden Skate.
You say you don't like P/C personality. That seems really mean. But pretty much your entire post is mean but I won't bother to sue you........................
