Tessa Virtue & Scott Moir # 47: Come What May...

Finally caught up with the news. First off, I'm super happy for v/m's two skates. Impressed also with Canada's picks for Team event. They were all awesome. Some nerves (Oh Patrick. Those dang jumps) in SD but they all certainly pulled out their best in the Free dance. Totally agree with scores. Don't know what to think yet. Tough panel of judges. I think it's good they reined in with the scores. Given the erratic scoring all season in various competitions for all the skaters. Would have been good if it was done this way before the Oly games but it is what it is. I would hope that this will extend well into the Individual event. All I ask is it's done in fairness, of course. My wish is that Tessa will stick with her original dress for SD. And I still stand with my opinion that I already love the changes at Nationals and hoped they kept them as is. But I'm satisfied with their modified lift here. I was more surprised that they changed the hand movement during the curve(?) lift. (Tessa's hand gesture was like in Prince program.) I kind of liked what Tessa already did all season long there. Yeah, I did think Scott put up his hands a little early at the ending lol. As to conspiracy theory, well, probably can't help but weigh in on what has transpired all season long. There is a pattern and it's pretty obvious. So, skating gods help me, prove me wrong then.

If it helps in any way to cheer up the moods, my Latin American mom thinks they destroyed everyone . I was trying to cheer for the Shibs and make her like them too 'cause I love them as well (though not as much as V/M), but she kept saying how there was NO comparison AT ALL, even ignoring the chemistry. And yes, I showed her P/C as well, and not even them were enough. She even asked me if they were the married ones :biggrinbo.

Oh, I've just realised one of my favourite little moments from Nationals (the gorgeous crossovers with them changing positions that came just after the spins) has gone. I get why, it's just that perfect knee bend, drive, and synchronicity on such a basic move is really why I love this team so much. It was stunning. I do like the new changes very much though, they've really worked on transitions. There were a couple of sticky moments right from the top I think they can iron out.

Just so proud of how VM have handled everything thrown their way. Flag bearing in a freezing cold opening ceremony, captain of the team event, every press conference, interview...and then throwing down 2 great performances! The pressures on them are enormous and yet they are handling everything so smoothly that you can forget just what they are handling! They are conducting themselves like true legends, and I couldn’t be a prouder fan.

Congratulations on your second Olympic gold, and hope you continue to enjoy every moment of these Games!!

My dad whose skating taste is questionable (he loves Zagitova, but ubers Aliona so maybe it evens out) called me to talk about "The Canadians".

He was all, "I'm still shocked. That was some of the best skating I've seen aside from Bolero. Almost as good as Bolero. Wow. WOW."

He ubers T&D and they are the reason I got into skating as a child, because my dad was OBSESSED with skating thanks to their Bolero... What a compliment.

I have no doubt that VM are going to use this week to make every change they possibly can to improve with a relentless focus. No matter what the politiks may be, I’ll know that VM will have done everything they possibly could to show themselves at their very best, and that’s all anyone could ask for.

Robin Cousin's true feelings are coming out one broadcast at a time. A direct quote from after they'd finished and his commentating partner was in raptures before setting up the individual battle:

'And what I love most is that every performance is choreographed uniquely- you can switch music sometimes with certain other skaters and the routine would be the same, and it would be brilliant and it would work, but everything they do, every detail of this is designed specifically and only with this music- wouldn't work with anything else, plus technically they are just so incredibly strong'

I'm just loving how loved they are.

I think doing this Team event was the best possible decision they made and they have gotten incredible attention with the Moulin Rouge as well as their SD (which many people loved). I think it's given them momentum, so "Come What May".

If they weren’t happy with the scores they faked it well. But I actually think they seemed happy and perhaps relieved with the 118. For sure they heard the Shibs scores and knew from the SD that the panel is tough.

I’m loving the NBC coverage. The camera angles and sound quality are so much better than CBC.

But isn't NBC getting the same feed as CBC and everyone else?

But isn't NBC getting the same feed as CBC and everyone else?

They have the camera feeds from each rink camera, but the different networks have their own technical director who decides what camera’s feed they’re going to have up in a particular moment. Tech director from network 2 might choose to show a certain element from the camera A feed while tech director from network 2 might choose to show the element from the camera d feed.

There’s one set of cameras in the rink. Each network is getting the feed from all of those cameras in their control room, but then the tech director decides from moment to moment what camera feed they’re pushing to the broadcast and which one they’re using next.

I'm still looking to watch ones from NBC too. At least if my friend can get a copy :p Btw, I found the shared vid of v/m's FD from Radio Canada to be quite entertaining. Somehow the French commentary made it sound so much more sultry.;) (Apparently it was up on Twitter somewhere. A friend of mine shared a shaky vid of it)
