Tessa Virtue & Scott Moir # 47: Come What May...

If they weren’t happy with the scores they faked it well. But I actually think they seemed happy and perhaps relieved with the 118. For sure they heard the Shibs scores and knew from the SD that the panel is tough.

I’m loving the NBC coverage. The camera angles and sound quality are so much better than CBC.

Have not even watched it yet but thanks for this!
Glad they seemed good with it, I can only think like you said they know it's a tough panel & thought they were going to get lower than 118..so they will take that!

I just wish the judging was consistent all season. Look at the skaters they look so confused with their scores. It’s like the panel is telling them they’re getting worse when that’s obviously not true. I’m so pissed about this honestly. But anyway congrats to team Canada and Tessa and Scott!

There are different judging panel and technical specialist for each event. The judging on the no touch steps have been judged very closely all season with all the teams. The judging at the GPF was tight too. Tessa had choctaw issues at GPF and Scott's had a slight issue at the GPF too.

I know it's naive to believe in fairness in ice dance but if the technical panel continues to be so strict across the board, it will be good for Tessa and Scott. It's obvious that VM are better technically than PC, so bring it on!! (Even many of their fans claim PC are the "artists" and VM the technicians. IMO Tessa and Scott are better in both aspects, but I know I'm "biased":p.)
I decided to think positive because, guys, only 2 competitive skates left!!

V/M are better technically at some things than P/C and others are not.

I have not always been a fan of V/M programs but no one can deny their talent. I like their free dance much more than their short dance. The changes they've made to the FD are very good. It will come down who makes the least mistakes, who gets their levels.

I do have a question..how was their PCS tonight compared to their other comps? Was it low as well?
ETA: I guess I'm just trying to see if that is a cause for concern as well or if it's just the tech panel.

Agree to disagree.

Does anyone know the time of the medal ceremony? I tried to google it but wasn't successful.

I was confused because they gave them miniature tigers and they were on the podium but no anthem or medals?!

I realize that but there’s no denying this panel has much much stricter than the previous ones. I’m just saying that I wished things were more consistent between this panel and the previous ones. Even the skaters and coaches are confused. Anyway it’s ok we have two more performances from Virtue and Moir ever guys! I don’t think I’ll be able to handle the IE live. This was a trial run, their biggest rivals weren’t here and I almost had a heart attack.

Just rewatched the FD (I was too distracted by the score box - I'm starting to hate that score box since I don't have enough discipline to ignore it) to be able to appreciate their skate and the changes they've made since Nationals.

-Their modified rotational lift was more aesthetically pleasing and gave more of a tango feel but I think the previous one looked more impressive, more raw, and perhaps more impactful when timed with the music.

-In contrast, the new position in the curve lift, while not as pretty as the original, exhibited a rawness that hadn't been there previously. They also made changes to the transitions so that the extension of Tessa's arms were perfectly timed with the lyrics "come what may", which struck a stronger emotional chord for me.

-For their choreographic lift at the end, I think Scott got too excited about finishing the program knowing that they had won the gold medal, he extended his arms twice (one of which was essentially arms up in victory, the other was part of the choreography). That tells you how much this team medal meant to them and how well he thought they skated, but I was thinking - what are you doing Scott!!! LOL.

They skated beautifully tonight. And this free dance has come a long way. I didn't like it at all very early in the season but I liked it much better during the grand prix circuit. And I liked it even more tonight. I know I said it before but they really seem to believe in this free dance and that's why it works so well. With them, P&C, and the Shibs, I can't wait to see how the ice dance event unfolds.

Scott Russell said the medal ceremony will be at 6 am est time. Okay well, I'm off to bed! I'll watch a replay of it tomorrow.

Final lift looked fine to me I was watching on NBC. They basically almost maxed out on it so that’s not an issue. I want to know what else they’re supposed to do to gain level 4 steps. They keep reworking them and it looks fantastic IMO, but still not enough.

I need to look at score sheet again. Seemed to me they didn’t max out the +3s on the circular footwork or the rotational lift that they changed. Didn’t they get all plus 3s on that lift at the GPF?

I STOOD in the corner of my living room, shaking. When they finally entered into the transition at the end before the last lift, I started screaming. That was a wild ride.

HURRAH! THEY HAD THE performance OF THE NIGHT AND THE CROWD AGREED! WOOOOOOHOO!

LOVED the reaction to this from the crowd too! I believe they are the fav going into the IE after watching that performance!
Tanith White was so happy they took part & even mentioned the French couple being at a disadvantage for not being there earlier..

In that case, wish I could access NBC coverage (hopefully, someone will post their coverage somewhere soon). Even though I'm in the US, I don't have cable so can't access the NBC stream :-(.

I really need to see the Eurosport coverage of this & the BBC..hope they are up tomorrow!

Also I LOVE that they skated so well BUT still have room to improve ..I prefer that..
