Mirai Nagasu Cheer thread: Return to Olympus

Mirai needs to have laser-sharp focus and get into the zone which will prevent her from having a tired, nervous skate that we've seen from more than a few competitors, already. Frankly, Mirai has been waiting for years to have this opportunity and to experience this moment. Any nerves should seriously be shelved and relegated to the backseat. Permanently. Good luck, Mirai!!!! Believe in yourself!!!! :cheer2: :cheer:

I agree, I think going up first is the best scenario for her.
Me too. My nerves are wracked but Mirai is a veteran. She knows what she needs to do. And at the very worst case, if the US loses the bronze the main reason will be Nathan and this will be a warmup for the individual event for Mirai. But I am trusting that this high pressure situation will bring out the very best in all of them. Go team! #teamusa #teammirai

Always remembering that pic of her in Pyeongchang last year, captioned, "Looking to the future and thinking, I can." Yes, you can, Mirai! You go girl!!!

USFSA has regained FULL Faith in Mirai.

In fact I think the last 5-8 years should be a docu-tutorail of how skaters/athletes/anyone can make a comeback...

From not doing well, to being without a coach, to not making an Oly Team, to coming in 4th several times, to your federation not believing in you and translating it ALL INTO HARD work and determination.... She has more than proven how to do this....

Sending love and prayers to our Mirai for a great FS! ♥

Lighting a candle for her and asking the skate gods, especially the legendary Axel Paulsen, to send down some love and prayers to Mirai too for a successful Triple Axel and fully rotated jumps! :oksana1::sarah1::shizuka1::sasha1:

@Spun Silver Aww, I'd hate to blame Nathan, or any skater for anything! He did his best under mountains of media and pressure with a wackadoodle practice and competition schedule the top skaters aren't used too! Nathan's an 18 year old kid who made his debut at the Olympics under less than great circumstances (the schedules) and he still came in fourth, got 7 points along with the Knierims and helped the U.S. go into 2nd! That would have been the exact same scenario had Nathan been 1st and the Knierims the (expected) 7th or so! The men have to throw quads out there, non of the other disciplines have to (Except for quad throws or quad twists from some of the pairs). I personally cut the guys some slack. My heart goes out to Nathan ♥ and I hope the skate gods are kind to him and he skates lights out in the Men's event! :)

@Sasha'sSpins, I am rooting for Nathan to be great in the individual event too, I truly am. But Olympic-level sport is no place for making nice about bad performances. This is war (read the comments of Elena Vaitsekhovskaya that I posted last night in the Team Event Day 1 thread). She's an Olympian herself and believe me, takes this seriously. It's a wonderful article.

The Knierims exceeded expectations in the SP and deserve all credit for that. Nathan skated the worst program of his career and there should be no problem acknowledging that either. He knows full well he let the team down, adding to the pressure on other members. I hope Nathan is fighting mad at himself enough to slay in the individual event. A comeback from disaster is one of the all-time great sports narratives. And I hope Mirai, Adam and the Shibs are all determined to outdo themselves because it's the Olympics and a team medal is on the line.

Go Mirai! Go Adam and Shibs! Let.'s do it!!

I think worst case scenario for the U.S is probably.

Dance- U.S beats Italy by 1 spot either finishing 2nd and 3rd or 3rd and 4th. The expected order is U.S, Russia, Italy, but I can possibly see Capellini & Lanotte beating Bobrova & Soloviev, or Bobrova & Soloviev beating the Shibutanis, but I cant see Capellini & Lanotte beating the Shibutanis as it seems too much a stretch right now. Now this could be wrong, and if it is big trouble for the U.S.

Ladies- Nagasu 5th and last and Kostner 2nd.

Men- Rippon 4th and Rizzo 5th.

Even if this all happened wouldnt they end up tied in points and the U.S win the tiebreaker. So barring something th at would fall under the super unlikely, C&L beating the Shibutanis, or Kostner beating Medvedeva, it seems the US cant lose the bronze unless I am wrong the tiebreaker goes to the U.S if they end up tied in points.

My bad I meant Zagitova, not Medvedeva. Does anyone know if my proposed worst case scenario for the U.S comes to pass- U.S beating Italy by only 1 spot in dance, Rippon 4th and Rizzo 5th, Kostner 2nd and Nagasu 5th, who wins the tiebreaker with the tied points total between the U.S and Italy.

^^^ You're just all sunshine and roses today aren't you judgejudy? (rolls eyes) All the worst case scenario projections and practically inviting doom and gloom for the American team. Well in the immortal words of Doris Day "Que sera sera" What will be will be and it is just as likely that Adam, Mirai and the Shibs skate well and bring home that bronze medal, or silver, even.
Positivity from me, if I worry I'll worry off line and not contribute to these written panic attacks!

Btw, somewhere @AxelAnnie and someone else posted last night that Mirai had only landed one 3A this season. I wanted to double check everything before replying and now I can't find the thread, so I will do it here:

Mirai landed 3As that were NOT called UR at the US International challenger in both the SP and FS; also at NHK (SP only); also at Nats (SP and FS) -- five rotated 3As. They all got minus GOE (ranging from -.4 to -2.43) but they are all ratified 3As and three are internationally ratified.

She landed UR 3As at Rostelecom Cup (both SP and FS) and NHK (FS only), a total of three.

She has not had any downgraded 3As.

She has an 80-90% success rate with the 3A in practice according to Mirai and her coach and there are many vids attesting to that.

I'll be lighting a candle for her tonight as well. I rewatched her 2010 Vancouver SP and I hope she channels some of THAT Mirai tonight. Fearless, having the time of her life and soaking up the moment. Whatever happens, I'm SO proud of her and all Team USA skaters for getting to this point and holding their own

I fold cranes for good luck. I hope all our good vibes help her shine tonight!

YEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEESSSSSSSSSSSSS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

ETA: I am so freaking happy for Mirai! I don't care about the underrotations. That was awesome. A clean triple axel! Vindication baby! Any time you know someone who wants to give up, showing them a video of this program.

OMG, YOU ARE A UNICORN, MISS MIRAI NAGASU!!!!:kickass::rockstar::oksana1::oksana1::oksana1::oksana1:

That was magical, pure magic, thank you so very much for rekindling my love of figure skating. You made me cry, and that is hard to do. Holy Smokes, still can't get over not only that ethereal triple axel, but also the entire perfect performance. I put it on par with the greatest performances throughout history. Personally, to me it was as magical as Sarah Hughes FS at the 2002 Olympics.

God Bless!
