Adam Rippon Won't Visit White House

This thread seems a little toxic but just want to remind some that Johnny refused to visit the White House when George W. Bush was president. I don’t know how many of you remember the mid-2000s, but the LGBTQ community was certainly under attack by that administration.

Because @sjs5572 mentioned Johnny as a bad example and connected to Russia

Hm. Do not be forgetful! If I'm right the gay marriage was allowed in NY! some years ago and there is state in US where the gays have to fear more than in Russia. And you forget Russia is a federation there are many partially independent republics , colorful populations with some religions plus the very influential Orthodox Church. You try to explain them the gays' rights. Needs time.
Yes and the Supreme Court then ruled in 2015 that all gay marriage was legal nationwide in America. So while some tried to say gay marriage can be banned and it not be considered hateful to gays was wrong. So that’s the baseline for my view. Only when a nation passes gay marriage can it be seen as a non discriminatory nation against gays. The gay rights movement was so split over whether boycotting Sochi would have meant Russia improves on gay issues and passed gay marriage.

I did not know that. He wasn't out in 2006; did he give an official reason?

And Michelle Kwan criticized Johnny for being disrepectful by skipping the WH visit.

Link? IIRC, Johnny complained that Michelle criticized him, but he never revealed what precisely she said (and I haven't read any other source). I seem to recall that, when it was first revealed that Johnny wasn't going to the WH, there were rumors that the USFS had left him off the list ... for all I know, she criticized him for not explaining why he wasn't going. If my recollection is erroneous, please let me know.

If we start to parse the Olympian selections, then maybe Brendan shouldn't go either (not that I really believe this), since his ISU best is more than 30 points behind Adam. Calling Olympians illegitimate is a slippery slope.

I understand your point but this is a bit of a false equivalency since Australia's selections were based largely on WR and Brendan also won Australian Nationals (and I think Nats placement is a large part of caseyedwards' point). If Brendan had lost Australian Nationals - if the SP result was the final result - your equivalency might have more weight.
