Brazil, Argentina, Uruguay and Colombia through the insane Conmebol qualifiers, with Chile out and Peru to face New Zealand.

But the USA is out  if you can't make it through a soft field as Concacaf...:shuffle: heads will roll

My Colombian team tho :cheer: :cheer:

I am stunned! They don't even get the playoff spot! This is a big setback for the growth of the sport in the U.S. But congrats to my tiny T&T!!! :cheer2:

But he is young and the future does look bright for soccer in the U.S. At least the Americans are not alone in their misery. China has invested HUGE amounts of money in football and it has gotten them exactly nowhere. For know.

Atlanta United FC's coach Gerardo Martino seems to be the favourite to replace Bruce Arena as USMNT coach.n
http://www.ajc.com/sports/martino-for-usmnt-players-aren-surprised/9sgSoMfDSM6HtTmeUgeVoM/
This predates Arena's resignation. Plus, the Power-That-Hires, our Federation President Sunil Gulati, has already stated that there will not be a full time replacement just yet. An interim coach will be chosen for the next International Friendlies, but a full time replacement will probably be chosen after the next World Cup.

Mr Gulati's term as President ends in February. He is running for re-election - it will be his last term if re-elected - and is expected to win this election. For all that we could still have a new President in March and no one knows what that person might do. Please stand by for at least a year of drama concerning this team.

I don't understand how Gulati still has a job.

There is no way to remove him except term limit or his resignation. He believes that the loss to TnT and being eliminated from the 2018 WC is not a disaster but just a bump in the road. He is convinced that U S Soccer is absolutely on the proper path it needs to prosper. Consequently, he will not resign. Also, his term limit allows him one more 4 year term if re-elected.

There are people running against him, however Mr Gulati is so very firmly entrenched in the upper levels of U S Soccer - not to mention CONCACAF and FIFA - that his not being re-elected would be a major surprise. I expect another 4 year term for Mr Gulati and 4 more years of the same old same old. Hopefully all of the National teams, and youth development, will survive this.

NJL (OTOH, MLS and all the other businesses that the USSF controls will do quite well..;)..)

FYI, especially the Canadians, USA 1 v 1 Canada in Woman's national team friendly in Vancouver last night in a game either team could have won, but both goalkeepers had their moment(s) to preserve the tie. The two teams will play again Sunday night in San Jose, CA. My TV listing has it on FS1 at 9PM EST.

NJL ( 9PM EST is 6PM in CA? )

I thought DH was having a medical crisis, but he's only watching his beloved Azzurri vs. Sweden WC qualifier. Heaven help me if they make it and go deep or if they don't or are out early. What a schizophrenic team!

Wow- no Italy at the 2018 WC. First time since 1958 that they haven't been there - now that is a shock.

Toronto FC made the MLS final again this year!!! :cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2:
They will play the Seattle Sounders again. Based on the 2 semi-final games I watched it looks like Seattle will repeat as champions because they can score. TFC struggled to get a 1-0 aggregate win in their series. Seattle had a 5-0 aggregate win. We'll see what happens next Saturday in Toronto.

NJL (the semi-final games were the only MLS games I've watched all season. I am have been in a major depression since the Ft Lauderdale Strikers died last fall and have watched very few games since. I am just starting to get back into the sport now...:)...)

I have no problems with this. TFC was the dominant team from the start and coulda won by 5 if the Sounders keeper had an off day (he didn't...he kept them in the game). Plus, Jozy Altidore, from Boca Raton, FL, scored the game winner and USMNT captain, Michael Bradley, played the game of his life to insure no goals for Seattle. Congrats to TFC for the best single season for any team since MLS was founded.

NJL (fun game to watch if you cheered for TFC. Less so for Sounder fans. As a neutral it was simply a case of waiting for the inevitable TFC game winner. Glad it was Jozy that got it, even if he looked to be offside live and on replays...;)...)

Nottingham Forest 4 - 2 Arsenal! Forest first two goals by Eric Lichaj, one of team USAs forgotten defenders. The last two on PKs.

NJL (Lichaj is pronounced LEE-HIGH..)
