Survivor Season 35 Heroes vs Healers vs Hustlers starts 9/27/17

Okay, somebody explain to me how that Secret Advantage worked again? I must of missed something because I don't understand how it worked and how he ended up with it?

I had some confusion as well, for how it worked. It was another advantage that expired within one tribal council (which is good, IMO, less for the audience to keep track of in the long run). Since the red tribe didn't lose the challenge, Jessica had to "gift" the advantage to someone on the losing tribe, similar to what Ryan had to do in the first episode.

My confusion as to the whole thing was that I thought she was giving the actual advantage to a tribe member who in turn would get to choose which vote to eliminate. However, in actuality Jessica had the power to instead choose who's vote to cancel out. She probably figured that the tribe dynamics were 2 healers vs. 2 heroes, with Devon being the swing vote, so she chose to nullify his vote to prevent him swinging over to the heroes side.

I was really confused when he pulled it out of his bag, I figured she gifted the advantage to him, but turns out that note really should have read "secret disadvantage."

It confused me as well. I thought he could use it against someone and instead, he got screwed.

All in all, I thought the episode was ....and Cole. Like a big, dumb puppy who hasn’t figured life out yet.

I was hoping that the tribe mixup would mean they were going down to two tribes. Things are always kind of boring with three tribes and mixing into three different tribes doesn't help much.

Cole? No words. Such an idiot. I didn't think that him telling the tribe about Joe's idol last week was such a bad thing but this week's move is definitely high on the list of dumbest things I've seen a Survivor do.

At first I couldn't figure out why she would cancel out the swing voter, rather than one of the Heroes. But then I realize she was being strategic by forcing a tie and flushing Joe's idol.

The text of the "parchment", called "advantage", read "the holder of this item looses a right to vote at this tribal" or something like "his/her vote will not count". So once activated, a person activating it looses a right to vote (instead of prohibiting someone else).

I wanted Chrissy gone, so bummed. I liked her originally, but last night - playing too hard.
Roark - didn't see enough of her, seemed to have potential.
Jamesy - is she really a show employee?

Ali & Ryan - fighting next week- no - I really like them.
Desi with the rice -doing better than the men - loved it. Hope she votes against Joe.

When Dr Mike was digging for HII and Jess was just standing there, I was wondering - if he finds it, can he just pocket it and not let her know as she was doing nothing. Bummed he shared it with her.

Question - for historians of Survivor.
I am almost done watching Season 9 - Vanuatu - season Chris won.
I know Jeff Probst dated Julie from that season. In the merger episode - after they painted their new flag, the girls painted themselves. Julie had a heart near her heart painted with the name Jeff. And it was mentioned at TC and Jeff smiled. So were they dating before the season began? Pretty nervy to put his gf on the show. Or during the filming was there flirting that the others saw? Just curious.
I have a better appreciation for Chris's win. I originally thought he won since the ladies imploded. But he was always playing and doing a great social game. I forgot how annoying Eliza can be!

It would have been helpful if we got some explanation as to why Jessica chose to negate Devon's vote. @Rogue has a good theory, but I was looking for her reaction when she saw that Alan was gone.

re Mike telling her about his Idol - I think he wanted to use it to build a relationship, also knowing she's in with Cole (and maybe seeing that there are also cracks in that relationship?). He's got to know what an obvious target he is, especially while they are still in these small tribes with little wiggle room at TC.

re Ali and Ryan - hopefully next week we will hear from Ryan as to why he didn't sync up with Ali on the vote. I can see why she'd be angry, as she sacrificed her alliance with Patrick and now might be fearful it was a mistake.

Agree that Chrissy is too smug.

The Jeff and Julie story.

Of course, they eventually broke up and Jeff had an affair with Mark-Paul Gosselaar's wife, to whom he is now married.

For what it's worth, this is Jeff's theory: I see why Ryan made this decision. He has already invested in Chrissy with the immunity idol from the marooning. He gains a lot by getting rid of a Healer and he may have just sensed a better long-term gain.

But then he says that this may come back to ite Ryan, which means it probably will.

And I guess he didn't tell Ali because apparently she was very anti-Chrissy?

It's hard to track the tribes to sort out who might have alliances/relationships with who, but I am enjoying this season.

Since I have no idea who that girl was that got voted out last night, I don't care she's gone! Seriously, who was that? I don't remember her at all from the few episodes we have had.

Chrissy was getting on my nerves, particularly when she kept stating how she asked her team multiple times if anyone wanted to swap out when she was epic failing, when she clearly did not (unless they did not show it?). As much as I'd prefer to have seen her go, we've seen so little of Roark to go off of, that it hardly feels like much of a loss other than Chrissy would have been out instead.

I still don't have a favorite. I like what I see from Ali, Ryan, and Dr. Mike so far. I'm ready to get this 3-tribes scenario out of here, with them having swapped up it's really difficult to remember who's on what tribe anymore. I'm assuming that they're all assuming the merge will be at 12? I feel like that's been pretty standard in recent seasons. If so, there'll be just one more boot before then.

These Survivor threads have influence how I watch the show - specifically trying to figure out the edit.
From a TC before this week, not sure which one - with Ryan - he said something different/funny/crazy - and Jeff had a big smile. I think he likes Ryan and if does not win - we will see him again. There is something endearing about him.

There are still so many people I don't have a sense of yet. 3 tribes does seem to make it harder to track everyone.
I hope Ryan can smooth things over with Ali. I like Ryan, and Ali reminds me a of younger version of a friend of mine, so I feel partial toward her. I think there are others I might like if I got to see them more. Right now - I only want Joe gone, along with Cole.

Cole can go from camp any time, but I'd very much miss watching him do the challenges :grope:

She suddenly showed up last week. The cast acted like she had been there all along.

Chrissy was getting on my nerves, particularly when she kept stating how she asked her team multiple times if anyone wanted to swap out when she was epic failing, when she clearly did not (unless they did not show it?).

But she did and they did. First she asked if someone wanted to take over while she took off her shoes (which doesn't count), but she also asked more than once after she started up again and none of them responded. I know she asked at least twice; I think it was three times.

Roark's boot interview is rather interesting; it's too bad she wasn't shown more.

Hm, I must have been zoning out more than I thought I was

I have a question about the challenge with "rice bags". Why would not challenge organizers place sand or small pebbles in those bags, instead of rice? Seems very insulting to society to be "playing with food and letting it waist" without using it. We were watching and gasping "this is food! it's not a play items....."

Was there a strategic or "physical" reason to use "rice"? like making contestants "hungry"? or feeding the crabs in the sand?

To me it appeared that she asked and then immediately stepped back up before anyone had a chance to respond. There was movement that looked like someone was about to step forward but she was already trying again.

That's what I saw too hence my look of puzzlement when at TC she made it look like no one would step up and she was stuck doing it all by herself. Something doesn't jive.
