THANK YOU. Why don't they give them actual bathing suits, shorts and tshirts? I guess they want us to see them "surviving" but that soon becomes apparent in actual clothes, their hair and their bug bites.

Yeah. The constant underwear shots were the episode highlight. That's about it. I don't know how I feel about the majority of the cast yet.

Probst has said that getting them stripped down to their underwear is a way of stripping them naked and exposing them, which is what the show is about. It makes them raw and vulnerable from the first day.

That reminds me of the Palau season when Tom's wife told him to make sure he was wearing his bathing suit at all times under his clothes after arriving in case they were marooned without notice.

Yeah, after this long in the game, I can't believe anybody would get on a plane to film the show and NOT always have their swimsuit/sports undies on at all times. Why risk it?

Any attempts to trick the wardrobe department are pointless since they started colour coding the tribes rather than letting them use their own clothes.

(Which IMO is very helpful in the early eps while we are trying to keep track and get to know everyone, especially when there are 3 tribes - I just wish they'd give them actual clothes!)

Pretty average episode. Not sad to see Patrick go but it was humorous when he gave a whole speech about growing through his experience with the others and then being voted out 2 minutes later and looking like a serial killer as he left.

I think Ryan is going to be a big superstar of this season/future seasons/dating now.

In the early seasons, they wore their own clothes, but they kept sneaking things in that way. Then the producers started going through their clothes and selecting what they thought best represented the "character" of each contentant, but that didn't work out very well, either, so they finally just started dressing everyone from scratch.

Meanwhile, earlier in the episode, he was trying to play nice with Lauren as to not make her "supposed" exit obvious. I'd be just as mad as the next person about a blindside, but he was a really sore loser and hadn't done anything yet in the game that should've made him feel secure.

Oh, I know! It was fine when he thought everyone was lying to Lauren. That's just part of the game.

I think that was about the longest reaction to being voted out I have ever seen--he really couldn't believe they had voted him out.

This season sucks. Probably my least favorite ever.

I'm glad Patrick is gone - his cowboy act in the challenge was unforgivable, and saying you're sorry and you're learning doesn't cut it when you are at TC twice in 3 days. Plus, I think there's more to Lauren and I would have been sad to see her go too soon.

So what's up though with Simone's comments in the media that Alex and Patrick knew each other from college? If so, they really hid it, and I'm surprised they'd put them on the same tribe. Anyone have any intel from the various sites on this?

Agree Ryan's a star - plus Jeff likes him, so he'll be back for sure. Even if his metaphors and analogies are a bit odd

That was a bit dumb of Cole to reveal Joe's Idol before it was even in play, but then again, perhaps he's not happy that he was the key to finding it but Cole has it. By telling everyone, he takes the power from Tony a bit?

In Simone's post-exit interview, she says that Ali and Patrick knew each other prior to Survivor, having attended college together and lived across the street from each other.

I just caught up on the first three episodes and this explains why Ali seems to have such a connection with Patrick because we haven't seen much actual evidence of it on the show.

I actually like a lot of people on this season, it's awfully early to say the eseason sucks. With Patrick gone, everyone on the Hustler tribe seems all right (Ryan and Ali are particular favorites), the only one I don't like on Healers so far is Joe (Mike is great and I like Cole a lot when he is being strategic and not flirting with Jessica), and now that the Hero tribe dynamic has switched to the new power couple of Chrissy and Ben, things are a lot more interesting there.

They have quite a few similarities so I can easily see where one could mix them up

Kind of an average season so far for me, nobody is really standing out as a favorite. Of course right when the dynamics get started we get a switch next episode, but I think that's pretty necessary when you start with such small tribes to start with. All it takes is a small majority and the stragglers get picked off. Has anyone heard if they are going to be switching in to two tribes? Usually they don't keep 3 tribes going for very long.

Also interesting that of the 3 tribes, we only have had 1 idol found so far. Assuming that all 3 camps have an idol clue etched into a tree branch like what was on the Healer's beach, I'm really surprised nobody on the other two tribes has stumbled upon theirs yet, unless we weren't shown. I also hope, for the love of god, that the producers didn't hide the idol in the same location at all 3 camps, because if Joe is switched to a different beach, he can very easily get a second idol. But I'm sure the producers love that, and I guess it'd be a bit easier to keep track of who has what if less people have an advantage. Last season there were so many things floating around I got completely lost keeping track of who had what.

I read a Probst Q&A this morning where he said they had no idea they knew each other and that the tribes had already been created when they found out.

Not sure if I believe him, but in the end it didn't matter anyway. And since Simone knew it's likely others knew and they were open about it within the tribe - so why hide it from viewers when they know we're going to find out anyway?

They could have easily had a confessional where one or both said they were surprised to see someone they knew, explain the extent of their prior relationship and their pledge to work together based on this bond - with perhaps the caveat that there's only so far that the alumni or whatever relationship would go when there's a million bucks at stake. Would have made a decent little storyline.

Instead, the producers just come off as dodgy - what other connections are they hiding from us?

Survivor contestants in the past have known one another--sometimes one has recommended another to casting--and it has never been revealed on the show. The only people who find out about it are the sort of people who read boot interviews and spoiler boards, which is a pretty small percentage of the show's audience.

Wasn’t it Tai who was able to find his second idol because of exactly that reason? IIRC it was attached somewhere to the post by where they got the water, and when he switched or they merged or whatever, it was in the same place at the other camp.

Anyways, I can’t put my finger on exactly what it is but something about the editing this season bothers me. It’s almost too laid back or something. The Amazing Race in the last few seasons has gone a more light-hearted route down to the music they use and turning most of the storylines into some kind of comedy. I miss the old days of the show and hope the return to pre-existing teams adds more drama.

Anyways, I can’t put my finger on exactly what it is but something about the editing this season bothers me. It’s almost too laid back or something.

Exactly the reason why i like this season. No obvious nastiness, even if few confrontations and strategies. People are normal, considering merits who can get food and win challenges.... I don't think it is laid back, it just not ugly (yet?).

I wish there were no chickens or any life stock ... the anticipation "how they will kill them" is not pleasant.

Jeff says that the last half of the game is great and the ending is jaw-dropping.

Jeff always hypes seasons and sometimes his idea of great is, um, not, but he usually doesn't flat-out lie, so I would expect everything to pick up at some point. The beginning is nearly always slow, as they are setting up all the threads to the stories that play out.

But I am calling it now--male winner. But not, I think, Ryan, as he is doing too much of the pre-merge narration.

Agree wholeheartedly.

As for a winner, I do think Ryan is perhaps playing a bit hard and showing his smarts a little too much, but his sekret alliance with Devon is promising, as is his potential connection to Chrissy once she finds out he gave her the idol. And what the three of them could do with it as a decoy now. But she's definitely being too cocky now I think.

Ben is a strong possibility at this point - he's not getting a lot of airplay yet but that's likely in part because they haven't had to go to TC for the past two weeks. Seems a strong all rounder.

Cole might not be able to keep secrets, but I'm thinking he'll be useful as a provider to his new tribe, and if he makes it to merge, could be a challenge beast. Read his bio today - the player he admires most is Spencer.

Somebody just needs to realize how loyal and strong Lauren is and then she could go far as part of a good alliance.

Jessica and Ashley seem far too distracted by boys in their underwear, but that might just be filler right now. Joe will blow it at some point, as will Alan.

Ali will either make it to the end, or leave spectacularly. I think she's smart, but I could see her getting caught up in to many deals or alliances and tricky plays and end up being the one who goes home. I also wonder what others will think when they find out she knew Patrick but still voted him out in their second TC. Might not speak well for her promises/loyalty.

But of course I am at the mercy of the Survivor editors - just sort of fun to say so now and then look back and see how wrong I was at the end

Yes Ryan does remind of Todd. I am liking him, and I like that Probs likes him. He seems like a nice kid.
I am enjoying this season. Lots of people are not annoying me yet!
Patrick - just based on your reaction of being voted out is why you deserved to be voted out!

It was dumb of Cole to reveal to Joe that he had figured out the clue referred to the well. Should have kept that to himself, sent Joe on a wild goose chase, and then gotten the idol for himself.

This whole episode, I kept think of Patrick, "He privileged, arrogant, doesn't have a clue that he is, and is surprised he's not the center of the universe."
