Shibutanis thread 3: Evolution

I hope their strategy pays off. They need to build momentum so hopefully their season will start off with a bang when they make their debut.
 
So any guesses what other pieces of music they're going to use for the FD? 'The Scientist' was a good accompaniment to 'Fix You', and I'm trying to think of another Coldplay song would go best with 'Paradise'. Maybe 'Viva la Vida'? (That song is way better than 'Paradise', tbh.)
 
Maybe that and "Sky Full of Stars". I'm still not sold on them doing Coldplay again, but I hope the music choices are at least wildly different from "Fix You"/"The Scientist". "Paradise" at least is.
 
I agree about ¨Sky Full of Stars¨. I think an instrumental ¨In My Place¨ would be reasonable too.

"In My Place" is actually my favorite song of theirs. I hope the Shibs use it. Their skating would match the melody really well.
 
I think I just really hate Paradise and wish they'd chosen almost any other Coldplay song instead.

Sky Full of Stars would have worked so well for an FD. :wuzrobbed

I've tried and listened to it repeatedly, and I really don't like that song either. I do like parts of it and I do like it's more of a up-tune with a real dance beat, but yeah I greatly prefer other songs as well. But what I like doesn't matter. It's what they feel inspired by and the fact that it was over 700 million views on YouTube probably means people worldwide love the song.
 
BTW, I have seen two "Fix You" routines already this season. Maybe the Shibs introduced another Warhorse to skating. Maybe two if more people other than Adam skate to "O"/"Fly On". ;)

Thanks for the links. As for not making any appearances in competition right now, let's just trust them and the process. As long as they're happy with their choices and are proud of their routines and work, then it'll show in their performances. First test will be Rostelecom. I have faith they can win it despite the reputation that GP has. Even if they don't win it, they can still qualify for the GPF and make a splash for the rest of the season as long as they keep going strong and do the work necessary as we know they're capable of achieving great things.

after watching B/S SD performance, I am little more relaxed about that competition :shuffle:
 
Yeah but B/S have two months to work on it and you know how quickly programs can progress. Plus the question is if the Shibs can do anything better. I myself think they definitely can, but it will come down to levels and GOE and they need to not only hit those levels but look masterful in doing it by going above and beyond and executing and dancing like rent is due.
 
So I was discussing this with @clairecloutier and we were wondering how we would like Maia to dress for the SD. I was wondering what you guys thought. I really don't have an idea because I want so many mixed things from her and we know if one isn't careful one can go overboard with ballroom style Latin dresses. I want her outfit to make a statement, but not distract from the skating. I want her to take a risk but still look like her.

I'd be interested in what you think @chapis because I know you have strong opinions about that since you are a Latin American person living in Latin America.

I'm mostly hoping she'll take a "Beauty is boring" approach to her hair and makeup this season. But as for Latin dresses, this one has a nice mix of flirty and everyday -- I like how it turns a shirtwaist dress into a glam ballroom look. I also like it that it's shorter. Maia needs to show off her body.

None of these are particularly comic though, if they are taking a lighter-hearted approach. Well, maybe the first one.

Of the ones VGT posted, I like the silver and black one -- very sleek -- and I do like those tassel earrings too.

This dress looks fabulous too!! I would love for Maia to wear a dress like that, although I do not know how comfortable she would feel with the skirt, it looks like the kind of skirt that Anna C. wears, which I love it.

I think she should take the sexy route, just because I think she's gorgeous and she should take advantage of that, like almost all the other skaters will do.
But of course, the costume depends on the type of program. We do not even know what other rhythm they will use besides the mambo, I hope a salsa.

I do not like weird combinations of colors at all, so anticipating the disasters that can occur with dresses in Latin rhythms, I would don't mind if Maia chose to use her favorite color again :lol:.

I hope they continue working with Roca and dance specialists. I think she can really be the on-ice eye to help them maximize the artistic side of their programs. Off-ice specialists are essential but ice dancers also need a real skating choreographer (and one that was an ice dancer is even better) to know what really looks good in a skating program and how to teach it to a skater.
