I liked Yagudin as a skater, I was a fan of him at the beginning. After I saw the little Plushy at ECH 1998 and "I fell in love with him" immediately.
But as I said I can't forgive him what he did against Plushenko in 2013-2014. That showed his real personality. Sorry, it was suspected from his interviews but those interviews weren't too serious. He often said - I don't remember his original words but this was the essence -: Plushenko needs to forget the FS, he needs to do something new in his life, he recommended him enjoys his life and his family, etc. But he, Yagudin tried many things, he tried to be singer, actor in TV series and theater (?). (But he wasn't too succesful in them. Right? Plus he doesn't like the FS, when did you see him in competitions? The skating is one of his jobs, he earns money with it in Averbukh shows. No more. )
On the contrary Evgeni adores the ice, the skating, the sports, he said not once he can't live without it. Probably you know this was one of the reasons why he divorced from his first wife. She and her billionaire father wanted to Zhenya finish the skating after Torino, and he had job in the hotel business ( Masha's father is a hotelier). He started to learn in St. Petersburg University of Economics majoring in hotel and tourism.( He graduated) But he wanted to skate more.
( I'm sure if Evgeni would be an actor he would be good in it. Look at him in some programs. Have you seen the humorous episode of Urgant show when he was an old skater who wanted to compete at Bagdad OG 2054? He was amazing! Did you read his biography? When he was 20-21 y.o. received a bid from US to make a movie in a romantic skating story.. He accepted it, but later he rejected, because to make a movie a very long time and he wanted to be Olympic champion.)
But back to 2014. When he withdrew from individual competiton Yagudin was one of the firsts who said Plushenko isn't injured! He only wanted to the team gold and his injury is fake! And he did a roadshow with his opinion in the Russian media. But he had no information.Even Plushenko didn't know what happened in his back. Just felt an incredible pain in it. Rina, he wanted to compete!!! Why not? A team gold and for ex a 4th place is a great result if anybody is 31!!!! He had chance! Plus he received high marks in team event, that would have been enough on 3rd place!! He always believes in himself!!! He competed with injury many times and won in the past.. Plus he loves Russia!!! He is a patriot!!! He knew he is the only one Russian man in the competition! So, if he withdrew he had real reasons.
Yagudin had to know Plushenko! Rina, had to know him... They grew up together! Alexei said he wanted to the team gold and wanted to advertise with it his show tour in Russia. He had a plan with signed contracts for 60 shows in Russia, in Siberia, etc. That is Averbukh's field.. he has shows in whole Russia. So I think Yagudin attacked Plushenko because of envy and business...
And that action on the Twitter! When he wrote Evgeni and his wife threatened his family, despite he already knew that was a joke from a stupid humorist!!!
And after these stories you can't show anything when Evgeni scolded Alexei. He said Alexei Yagudin doesn't exist for him...And he takes himself seriously.
In May 2014 Alexei said to send Plushenko in Sochi was the good decision...Do you understand???
And you don't worrie about Plushenko's popularity..He lost fans and he has Russian haters, but he remained one of the most popular athletes in Russia. He beat for ex. Sotnikova and Lipnitskaya in 2014. and 2015.
I don't think Plushenko is a saint. He is a talented man, sincere, humorous, peaceful person, who knows who is he. He received so much adorations from the beginning! He has many fans, beloved, he is famous, he has a wonderful life! I believe he remained a normal guy despite these things. But we all know the people are changing by the money, fame.....
