Survivor v32 - Brains, Brawn, Beauty v2

I love how the men got worked up about a women's alliance...that hadn't even been considered. Then Nick stirs up a whole lotta nuthin' that needs worrying about... Those men. They're just so...emotional! :lol: And then after all that unnecessary much ado about nothing...the women think, "well, if they think we are an alliance"... Well done, men. You just orchestrated your own exits from the game! :D

While we were watching, my husband was wondering who voted for Jason and I figured it had to be Tai because he seems to do his own things for his own reasons, always. We both laughed when we saw it actually was him, but really, who else is makes decisions the way Tai does?
 
I've often wondered why people don't vote like Tai just did. It shakes things up and makes the unsettled people act out...painting a target on themselves. If you have a personality like Tai's where you can sit back and be quiet in the midst of chaos...and just let the crazies target each other, then that to me is brilliant gameplay.
 
I read on previously tv - that the plan was to vote out Jason, but Joe was set on Nick.
Tai either was not present or did not hear that Jason was a no go and still voted for Jason.
This was per an inteview with Nick.

Another theory is that Tai realizes he is not #1 with Scot and wanted Jason gone.

Wouldn't it be amazing if it turned out that all this time Tai has actually been a totally straight,super rich high-flying business executive with a clipped British accent? It would all have been a super convoluted sham all along, kind of like Russell Hantz's Katrina fireman tale but exponentially more sneaky. :summer:

I read that too. They didn't have the time (supposedly) to get that info back to Tai - or some such thing.
 
^^ I'll never understand it when the contestants say "oh we didn't have time to tell So-and-So". Why the hell not?! They are just sitting around at camp doing nothing anyway. You don't have to walk off and have a secret meeting, just quietly mouth "vote for Nick" or whoever to that person who didn't get the word. On the, what seems to be a very long walk, to Tribal Council, pair yourself up with that person who you 'didn't have time to tell' and say "vote for Nick". You don't have to go into hours long secret discussions about it if one person didn't get word. Just quietly say "vote for Nick". I just don't get how that happens so often.

The elimination of Nick was very satisfying - but the elimination of Jason would have been so much MORE satisfying! I get why the editors didn't let us see the earlier agreement about Jason and how it changed, but the growing disconnect between what happened on the island and what we're seeing is :wall:. I'm hoping it's just TPTB trying to salvage a bad season and they're not truly moving toward a Big Brother style of narrative :blah:

Also the immunity challenge - I would think would be easier for smaller people. So was Tai really uncomfortable or did he fake that.
I am starting to wonder if he is wicked smart and playing everybody. Or is he just fumbling along?
I loved how he hugged and kissed cydney and then hugged Jeff.
There is something refreshing about Tai- genuine feelings.

Tai is complicated. He is quite a character and very active in the Castro and Mission district, with various gardening community projects, nature and animal rescue, and entertainment events. He was/is traumatized by his past life experiences; it did affect his nerves and conduct. He is brilliant, AND very smart, AND very competent and inventive, AND yet practical when needed, AND very traumatized, and compensates it in various ways, but he does not let it affect practical issues and handles "past memories" well, and lives a good life with his B-friend Michael.

Thanks Tinami Amori for the pictures. Given how it seems like TPTB and Jeff love their 'macho' men, I appreciate that they cast Tai and put him in the Beauty tribe. It seems like most people that play Survivor feel it has been a positive experience etc, but Tai seems like one of the few that truly appreciates a lot of the small things.

Tai submitted himself to a vaccine experiment to fight HIV virus. He lived through certain difficulties in life and can never settle in "normal routine", so he seeks border-line situations to test if he is really alive, because things in San Francisco, even if one has money and home and family are kind of artificial compared to other "worlds":

"Tai Trang is one of the 96 volunteers who has already stepped forward in San Francisco. "They were looking for high-risk people, and I guess I qualify," says the petite 42-year-old. He and his family emigrated from Vietnam in 1980, and he moved to San Francisco in 1991. He came out two years later, and admits that since then he has lived a somewhat decadent and dangerous version of the gay life. "Being a gay man in San Francisco, I have lots of sexual encounters with lots of different people, a lot of time with strangers," he says. "And sometimes, whether it's the influence of alcohol or the heat of the moment, you let your guard down and do things that you regret in the morning."

He entered Survivor clearly for adventure and to experience "hard-ship" which he does not feel in regular life in San Francisco. It's a "test game" for him, and money would be nice, but "adventure" even if it is artificially created, is what he misses. In real life as a gardener he climbs up on roofs and reaches for furthest branches, 2 stories up.... He is "wild" but he is extremely professional during the day, great workeer, and also very anti communist/socialist and never took a penny from ANY one, always earned his own.

Debbie was my pick to win it all. It was stupid of the guys to reveal their idols and it was stupid of the women to vote Debbie off. If they had a problem with her leadership they could approach her with it. She struck me as very approachable. The game messes with your mind.

I like that the chicken is still alive. I'm not sure that happens without Tai.
 
Man if I didn't hate them before I loathe Scott and Jason now. :P I hope neither of them makes the Final 3, although Julia is right about wanting to be sitting beside them. Who would vote for them after their childish behavior? Although stranger things have happened .......

Too bad it was Debbie. The humor is gone now, along with her ever changing titles!
 
The women missed a perfect opportunity to help themselves get further in the game. Dumb...dumb.

Well they still might have Tai as he certainly does not like Jason. They vote for Jason and then Tai refuses to play the idol. Of course that doesn't make Tai safe with them necessarily. But I wonder if Jason reminds him of some soldier types he left in Viet Nam. It could work.

Not getting this. The boys were going to use the super idol - if all the women had voted for Scot, Cydney would be gone, because Tai could have used the super idol to save Scot after the votes were read. We didn't hear much about this in tribal tonight, but Tai flat out told everyone about it and what it does last week. I get why the guys chose to reveal their idols and do their dumb idol theater (and subsequently not use any prior to votes being read), AND I get why Aubrey felt that Debbie was too unpredictable. It's a rough spot all around - and mostly I'm mad about how the reward teams were chosen. If it had been a schoolyard pick and Scot and Jason were on opposite teams, I was imagining that they'd refuse to help and just make the challenge as miserable as possible for everyone. But changing it up and letting teams self-select it gave the guys a reason to win. Two reasons - one, to get food, and two, to pull one of the girls over. Julia voted with the other women tonight, but considering that it still worked in the guys' favor, I bet they will still want to work with her.

I'm mostly pissed that Tai agreed to the level of game that Jason and Scot want to play. I think it will eat at him, and I hope Aubrey is able to talk some sense into him next week. I can't image the douche canoe alliance makes it to the end, because Probst would be thrilled about this season and he's clearly just meh on it.

Joe is so completely out of this game. He's just kind of there, but not.

I'll miss Debbie :(
 
I won't miss Debbie. She was looking pretty Gollum-esque hunched over the fire pit. :shuffle: But it's kind of sad the alliance turned on itself and didn't even get any of the idols out of play.
 
Not sure there's a major problem here. Joe knew the women wanted to get rid of Debbie. He thought it was a bad move because of numbers, he didn't say anything about loving her so much that he couldn't bare to see her go. So I think Aubry can soothe the ruffled feathers of Joe. That means that the four women along with Joe are a voting block of five against the jerky twins/triplets. Next week, the alliance of five vote out Scot, his alliance use the superidol to keep him and the five majority alliance becomes a four majority alliance and then picks off the idol-less jerky triplets.

What a missed opportunity with the women. Julia did vote with them. They could have gone with Debbie's original plan splitting the vote between Scot and anothery guy. There are not enough idols to cover three people. Scot would have been out and they would be free to pick the other two off at their leisure. Joe was very vocal about keeping Debbie. He can't be too happy with the vote.
 
Scot and Jason - hate them, neither deserves to win or come in 2nd or 3rd. And they better not get a 2nd chance ever. Sore losers. It is a game - and they are still there.
They think they are so clever - but they are sabotaging the jury.
Bummed Debby is gone - she was entertaining.
Tai - I am really disappointed with him. I am not sure I can root for him anymore. Hopefully Aubry will knock some sense into him.
Joe - waste of space. Unless it is not being shown, he has no real conversations - give and take - he just will vote how he will vote. No game play from him.
Now I am rooting for Cydney, Aubry or Michelle. Then maybe Julia, Tai no so sure anymore and none of the other guys.

The guys were never going to use any of the idols before the vote. They were only going to use the superidol (if they had to) after the vote, meaning Scot would never have gone home, and Cydney would have.

I do agree that expending one of their own while flushing out all the idols would have been smarter for the women strategically. It's not clear if that information was known to the women - if it was you can bet Cydney was not going to let that happen, and Aubrey was so frustrated by Debbie's lack of flexibility that it may not have mattered.

ETA: even though Tai's commitment to the guys' petulant sabotage plans is disappointing, he's very smart about it - he voiced his concerns to the guys, and only put out fire after everyone saw Scot do the same thing. We only heard people talk about Scot or Jason putting out fires, never Tai. He also was quick to lie about his vote for Jason last TC and that apparently was accepted. Even if I hate that he's fallen to the trollbro side, he's playing very well. The trick will be to get to the finale. How could anyone win against him??
 
What I don't understand is why, when Debbie said they couldn't have idols, Cydney didn't speak up about Jason having one.
 
Good points about Tai and Cydney. I suspect Cydney wanted to keep some sort of lifeline back to her old tribe if need be but that seems gone now. You are right about Tai. He is playing well and I am sure there are some raised eyebrows at what they now see as the programs run. Interesting.

They should have kept Debbie. But as for Scot and Jason: There is no way they are coming anywhere near the money. I think the best they can hope for is an invite to another "Survivor" as the hated bad guys.
 
It's interesting how everyone was divided into two groups where one group was (trying to be) run (rail-roaded) by one person and the other group was run (rail-roaded) by everyone but one individual. Debbie and Jason/Scot are all oblivious to the fact that you can't play through domination. I really hope Tai works with Aubrey and leaves the boor-ish two in the dust. And hopefully Tai is able to take the super idol with him.

I want Tai to win now, so so much. I love him. If Aubry manages to bring him over to their side next week, it will be so sweet. Tai and Aubry final 2, with Tai winning! Or Aubry, so I get a holiday!
