Rossi is absolutely glorious in movement with his whole body, but the jump technique is whack. Twisted entries, tight landings, crooked in the air, and the Axel turns way too much on the blade before it goes up (shades of Lysacek, if you will).

He wasn't like this last season, was he? I know it could be growth, but his whole technique seems totally broken. And he doesn't look all that much taller.

I thought the scoring was ridiculous too, especially PCS. Rossi was so gifted with every jump super wacky and messy. Yes I like his posture and extension at times but the GOE from the judges was mostly positive on the jumps. Huh??! Always way off axis, pre-rotated and loose in the air, sloppy or under off balance landings. I felt he was overscored last year too at Junior Worlds. Chen has been a mess in competition almost every time I’ve seen him, and I saw him live at 4CC’s last year. Hagara PCS score was a joke as others have said. Japanese guy overscored too for what he put out there. Sanchez had the best skating skills of the lot to my eye. He could be right at the top with some mental strength and more fight.

ITA with you, although I liked the Japanese (Kakiuchi’s) presentation & smile a lot.

In general, that was the sorriest scoring of a final flight of Men that I’ve seen in a long time.

I think Sanchez is still getting used to competing internationally. He had an injury last summer that led him to miss Skate Milwaukee and thus the chance at JGP assignments last year. He's very talented and younger than most of the other US JGP skaters as well as others you mentioned (Hagara, Chen, etc.) so hopefully he'll continue to learn and improve.
