Yuma Kagiyama is taking a break

From Nikkan Sports

What’s next for Yuma Kagiyama? Interested in holding skating class tour, pursuing academics, doing choreography and more… He announced that he would be taking a break next season

Yuma
: I’d like to try my hand at other things I want to do or become, explore various paths, and consider different options. I’d also like to hold classes for children who have never skated before. I’d like to help spread the appeal of skating even further and contribute to its growth. Since there are many ice shows during the off-season, I’d like to perform a program that I choreographed myself.

During the World Team Trophy last April, he served as an instructor at a skating class for about 40 children living in Tokyo, which appears to have strengthening his interest in nurturing the next generation. In addition to plans to hold skating classes in multiple cities across the country, he is also strongly interested in the research conducted by the Department of Competitive Sports at the College of Sports Science at the Chukyo University, where he is currently a student, and choreography.

After earning two Olympic Silver Medals and five World Championships medals, I think that it's great to see Yuma take some time to explore other interests. He has given so much to the sport. I wish him all the best in whatever comes next.

His students would definitely have the best basic skating skills and jump techniques. I will miss him dearly and hope he will come back refreshed and skating for himself. I rewatched his 2022 Olympics programs and he was skating so "freely" I hope he will find that free spirit again.
