Only six teams make it to the finals? If so, no doubt T/M, S/H, J/C, Y/Z and likely P/J. I do not like Z/E's skating at all because they are so boring, but they are bound to make it due to being gifted by judges all the time. Still, my 6th pick is M-T/M because I think one boring Russian pair is more than enuf at the final!

In fact, M-T/M if they continue to impress competitively, have the opportunity to be the 4th or 5th pick over Y/Z and P/J who are often inconsistent. Della Monica/Guarise could surprise as well. I just wish Z/E would go away. :drama:

I pine for Stol/Klim and the recently split Ash/Rog, not to mention the dearly long departed Barasova/Deputat. :saint:

Vlad and Enbert need 'How to bring on the sexy' lessons from Alexei Rogonov and Andrei Deputat. :grope: I don't think Vlad is absorbing any hints from Robin, alas. :duh:

ETA:
It was highway robbery that James/Cipres didn't reach the final last year. They more than deserved to be there.

Sui & Han, Tarasova & Morozov, James & Cipres look pretty safe. In fact all 3 teams will likely win both their assignments. After that it is much harder to say. I think the judges are already falling out of love with Yu & Zhang, their PCS at worlds showed a real dip relative to their peers vs the Olympics when they skated far worse. Peng & Jin IMO have more potential than Yu & Zhang by far, but are less consistent. I guess if forced to guess I would see both making it, as there isnt much depth with all the absences/retirements, but I think either could miss, more likely Y/Z IMO.

Zabijako & Enbert will probably make the other spot since their assignments are pretty good, and they rarely melt down. Della Monica & Gauraise I would love to make it and maybe they could, but their assignments are pretty tough.

Yeah I agree that D-M/G have a bit tougher fields in terms of having to battle a bit more for rep and dominance. Z/E who don't have as difficult fields, are constantly gifted by the judges, especially on PCS.

It will probably get even worse this year since Z/E are now solidly the Russian #2 with the likely splits/retirements. They will get even more clout from a powerful Russian fed.

I do love D-M/G though and am amazed how far they have come. When I first saw them I never thought he could get his skating to the level, she I could see as she was already a pairs veteran, but not him but he has totally proved me wrong. I would die of happiness to see them achieve things like making the GPF or even sneaking a medal at worlds before they are done. I hope they get the scores for what they put out and are allowed to beat higher seeded competitors in their outings should their skates merit it. Which given their assignments they probably need to in order to make it.
