Where do you think certain TV shows "jumped the shark"?

As long as you skipped most of season 5... I have all the DVDs and I've rewatched pretty much the entire series, but no matter how hard I try, I can't make it through season 5.

I own the dvds too. Yes Season 5 is not the best - but love the episode 'The Supremes'. I loved how Josh fell in love with Glenn Close's character based on what she said about the law.

House of Cards: Absolutely loved Season 1, but I stopped watching after Kevin Spacey kills the journalist. From the previews I've seen, he eventually launches a presidential campaign and that's all just too gimmicky and tacky for me.
Since I don't have Netflix, I haven't seen the American iteration of House of Cards, but what you describe as too gimmicky and tacky seem to match the 1990 British original. Of course, that is how the first part of the trilogy ended, so I suppose that was perfect timing to "jump the shark." :D It did return for parts 2 and 3 several years later, so evidently people weren't completely turned off by Ian Richardson's murderous PM.

Humorous X-Files episodes appeared pretty frequently in the first one. I thought that episode was perfect, with lots of callbacks to previous episodes. :)

This was actually the first of the new ones where I WASN'T like "Oh, shut up. It's like listening to 'Coast to Coast AM' and the paranoid schizos who call in on government-conspiracy topics." Nice nod to late producer Kim Manners (the tombstone they have their conversation in front of) and it had pleasant callbacks to funnier episodes like "Bad Blood" and "Jose Chung's 'From Outer Space'" with even a reference to Scully's immortality (that's what she was talking about--the Peter Boyle character who foresaw peoples' deaths told Mulder, "Auto-erotic asphyxiation is a terrible way to die" and when Scully finally asked him how she would supposedly die, he said, "You don't.") As long as the poor dog doesn't end up like poor Queequag. (Don't name your pets after doomed characters from Moby-Dick, Scully, which basically leaves you, what, Ishmael?)

For anyone who likes the idea behind the Big Bang Theory and hasn't seen the British series it was bases on, watch "Inbetweeners" (the series and the first movie, I wouldn't recommend the second movie) - the British series were seriously hilarious. All the episodes of the "Inbetweeners" are on youtube

I didn't know the Inbetweeners and I've just watched a couple of episodes on youtube, thanks!

Not necessarily 'Jump the Shark' - but the original Law & Order, even with all it casts changes, once Jerry Orbach left due to illness, and then died shortly thereafter, the show was never the same for me. He had been on for a long time and just such a lovable character with great comments. I do not think the show changed, but for me - he became the best thing on the show.
I don't have anything to say about shows jumping the shark (well, Twin Peaks comes to mind there) but I love Jerry Orbach so much I just had to post to agree with this. I still miss Lennie and Lumiere. :( It was great that they named the Jerry Orbach theater in NYC in his honor.
