Say,I wanna get an update on this. What kind of skater would everyone here like to be someday?

You left off freestyle.

I want to re-learn all the single jumps and the spins I used to be able to do (esp. flying sit). If my asthma would allow it, I'd like to be able to do a program just for fun.

I picked "I'd rather continue what I'm doing" because I don't want to do just one kind of skating. I mostly do ice dance now, but I've done all your choices except pairs at one time or another.

What kind of skater do I want to be? A better one. Better at my basic skills and movement overall. Since my main coach's rink is a distance away and I can only get to work with him about once a month, I'm working at my regular rink with a new ice dance coach, too. And he agreed that those are good goals!

I didn't vote because I want to become a better skater in general. The type of skating really doesn't matter to me.

The basic skills like stroking, crossovers and edges have to be strong for every skater. In the past I have done ice dance when I couldn't get enough ice time for free skating, and I have done free skating when I couldn't get enough ice time to do ice dance. But I was able to work on my basic skills no matter what kind of skating I was doing.

FSWer: I am also someone who IS an ice dancer and just because I didn't check off that "box" doesn't make mean I'm not an ice dancer. I chose the "continue" box because that is what is most meaningful to me instead of being categorized as a particular type of skater. I want to learn solid skating skills to be the best skater and ice dancer I can be. I frankly don't care if I ever get a partner or compete as an ice dancer. As long as I'm happy with my progress and my coaches are happy, then I AN AN ICE DANCER and I'm enjoying what I want to do.

I am going to be blunt here -
several of us here have tried over and over to explain to you that our goals are to be the best skaters we can be, but you don't seem to understand or accept that we don't need to have partners to be ice dancers or pick a certain style of figure skating to compete or otherwise to be who we are. We have goals to achieve the best skills we can and use them in the best way that makes us happy.

And being happy and enjoying skating is the best. We wish that for you, too.

Why the hostility? If you don't like the poll, ignore it.

To quote Balanchine, "I take up a very small corner of the world. If you don't like what I'm doing, don't look."

I'd like to be a pairs skater. But since I rarely skate at all anymore it isn't going to happen.

I said I’d rather continue what I’m doing. I have done freestyle and pairs in the past, and am now doing dance and synchro. Sometimes I really miss freestyle (I only did pairs for a couple years and then not anywhere close to seriously), but I’m enjoying learning new things now in dance and synchro. I’m never going to be able to learn any new jumps at my age anyway.
