Compulsory Dance was the first part of ice dance competitions before the new rules. It's the pattern dances that are now part of the Short Dance.
Original Dance was the second part of Ice Dancing competitions which would be the set rhythm or rhythms or theme dance. It was combined with the Compulsory Dance to make up today's Short Dance.

@FSWer the compulsory dances are ice dances where the steps and the music are already chosen. In other words, the ice dancers who do a compulsory dance all do the same dance - the same movements to the same type of music. Ice dancers have to pass compulsory dance tests if they want to compete in ice dancing. They can also take the tests even if they don't want to compete.
The original dance used to be part of ice dancing competitions. The ISU would choose a style of music, like tango or jive, and set a range of tempos for that music (usually a minimum and maximum number of beats per minute). The skaters had to find music in that style at the right speed, and then make up a dance like a compulsory dance. Some of the current compulsory dances are based on original dances that ice dancers created for competitions.

"Compulsory" means "required". In a compulsory dance, also called a pattern dance, you are told exactly what steps you are required to do. The name "compulsory dance" just is a description of what the dance is - one where the skaters do the required steps.
"Original" means you made it up yourself. The original dance was still a kind of pattern dance, but instead of doing required steps, the skaters got to make up the steps themselves. They made up their own pattern, and could skate it over and over. Other people could learn it, too, if they wanted, and sometimes a dance that started off as someone's original dance ends up getting added to the list of compulsory dances.

Ice Dancers of all levels have to show certain compulsory dances at their tests (the Canasta Tango is a test dance for the pre-bronze test, as well as the Dutch Waltz). Although they are no longer part of international competitions, they are still taught at ice dancing classes.
