The Skating Session - A New Show

Three episodes at once. Apologies for not posting these sooner. I have been traveling:

The Skating Session - S2E3 - Olympic Qualifier Skate to Milano Day 1 Highlights

The Skating Session - S2E4 - Olympic Qualifier Skate to Milano Day 2 Highlights

The Skating Session - S2E5 - Olympic Qualifier Skate to Milano Day 3 Ice Dance Deep-Dive & Review

I thoroughly enjoyed the deep dive on the Milano Ice Dance results! I learn so much from listening to Tony and Thomas. I appreciate their knowledge of the sport and not feeling the need to be cutesy or comedic in their dialog like some of the other podcasters I’ve listened to. Great job, guys! 👌🏻👌🏻

Thank you Tony and Thomas! Very thorough break down with the elements cuts. Truly helpful!
WL´s FD changed a lot comparing to their 2022-2023 version, and they brought back so many strong elements from previous programs. ChSl and ChSp are basicly the same as their 19-20´s Black Swan.
And If I remembered it right, Milla & Nikolaj´s one-foot ChLi is actually the same as one of WL´s CuLis in the original Batman FD? It was quite shaky at that time.
I really like the performance of Milla & Nikolaj, even with all the technical issues. If this was the real Nebelhorn where they trained I believe things would be different. However China did spend 1.12 million US dollar to host this event, and find a new sponsor for ISU and sign the deal for 4 years during this event. I guess all those didn´t go in vain.

Tony looks like he manages his local Canadian Tire store.

Have it ready for my work drive tomorrow. Need to have something to look forward to on a Monday morning.

In the episode Thomas talks about the version of Paint It Black that Chock/Bates are using in their free dance. Here is the scene from Westworld for those who haven't watched the series. Viewer discretion advised for violence.

Thank you! I meant to post links to a video in the podcast description and have Tony do it on YouTube.

It’s hard to find the full scene. They get taken down frequently, but I found this one with foreign subtitles:

The discussion around Sota Yamamoto, and whether the jump set up for quadruple toeloop, and then the Lutz later in the program should count as a jump attempt, and check a box. Chaeyeon Kim did something similar last week, and added a double Axel towards the end of her program that was counted.

That’s great context. I haven’t gone back to look at the rules yet. Not sure if @tony has. But it definitely seems like even within an event (and one program!), the rule has been applied inconsistently.

Thank you for putting out the Cup of China video so quickly. I couldn’t wait to hear what the two of you thought about Chock and Bates Free Dance. To my amateur eye I could tell that it was vastly inferior to the Free Dance of Cizeron/Beaudry. I wouldn’t say the program doesn’t have potential, I’m just not sure these two are up to the challenge of making it good enough to compete against Cizeron and Beaudry’s FD.
