The Dance Hall 12: Boston Tea Dance Party

Dana Sabatini-Speciale and Daniel Kaye have created a team Instagram page, but still no mention of country representation.

Instagram: dana_daniel_icedance

A vlog was posted both on Instagram and Dana's YouTube of their training with Barbara Fusar Poli's team in Milan. Looks like they have programs (having said that, they only showed a few elements), but I haven't seen them on entry lists for anything...

I think they look pretty good, especially considering Daniel has not done partnered dance before, while Dana was on the JGP circuit the past 2 seasons :)

If they aren't skating for Canada, she'd have to sit out a year and probably wait for a release, so it makes sense they haven't entered a competition yet.

I’m going to cross post my comments in this thread, as I didn’t know it even existed lol

I’m a bit sick in bed unfortunately tonight …..and I’m watching that figure skating show podcast on the YouTubes right now. Piper Gillis got married? Her husband seems kind of hunky.

When did this happen? I mean I never ever ever go into the weddings thread. It’s just not my thing.

Holy moly, trusova got married to makar? I thought she was dating Mark…. Confuuuusedddddd

What the heck …Polina Edmunds got married as well? And I’m only two minutes in into a 25 minute podcast.

Madison chock designs lovely ice dancing dresses for herself. What did you guys think of her wedding dress/attire…?

Also, I just noticed, I don’t mean to derail this thread with my latter comments

i just read on twitter that michael parsons passed out yesterday after their rd in france? any word on how he's doing? i watched the video of their rd. they looked great! love caroline's dress and they got the character of the dance just right. hope everything is ok.

@Sylvia shared in the KnC Trophee Metropole Nice RD/FD thread that she'd heard from folks in Nice that Michael was fine now. Hopefully he'll be good to skate tomorrow.

I hope he is OK. Thank you for keeping us in the loop.

Going to try and watch the women’s practice here, I hope Elyce can make up 6 1/2 points to get to the podium.

lol Mariah just said she doesn’t know a lot of these skaters in the first group, not bitter here, Karen, but I don’t think commentators should show up, not knowing who the people are in any sport. Lol but that’s just ANL.

Charlie posted a story on IG of a pic of Michael and Caroline with thumbs up and it says Michael is ready for the FD. :)

wrong thread, sweets...

I know we're all still digesting the results from Skate America, but the results from Trophee Metropole Nice were also pretty... Interesting. I don't know if anyone has recorded/posted the RDs from the top 5-7 teams, but I did record the top 7 FDs today. Enjoy!

the last 2 jwc teams have excellent programs this season that they skated beautifully at sk. am. i get (but don't always agree) that teams just moving up to seniors are supposed to wait their turn, but a couple of the teams that finished above them here simply shouldn't have. ugh. the intricacy of the choreography, the speed and power don't seem to compare (on my little laptop screen).

so glad olivia has stayed in for another cycle. this partnership is bringing out the best in her (although, she and adri were great together, too).

shame about the little mistakes for marie-jade and partner. i really like that program!

That Dune program from S&Dieck is SOMETHING ELSE. The opening lift is art. I couldn't be happier for these two.

...I am not ready for Fear & Gibson to be world champions. Please, jeebus, let the Italians stop this madness.

Given that C/B beat F/G in the FD by almost 6 points, I don't see F/G winning Worlds just yet. After the current top 3 retire, though...
I actually don't think they'll win Worlds once the top 3 retire. Their RD score at SkAm was practically the same as their RD scores on the GP last season, and their FD score was 4 pts & 8 pts lower than their 2 GPs last season.

I'd bet hard cash that LajLag overtake them before Milano-Cortina and that CarPon will overtake them the season after LajLag do it.

I hate to ask, but assuming the Russians aren’t banned forever, do they have any top-five teams for the next cycle?

what is "gd" score?

Typo for FD I think.
Yup. Fat thumbs and on the phone when I was responding, lol.
Though if you think about it, it's a pretty good typo if you aren't a fan of Fear/Gibson's program.
LOL! Not a fan of Rocky, even less of a fan of Beyonce this season. Come to think of it, I also didn't really like their Lady Gaga FD either. GD can certainly describe my opinion of their FDs three seasons running now.

Well, it's complicated. For now it's still Stepanova/Bukin and Khudaberdieva/Bazin at the top, but both teams do not show anything exciting.
Among the newly formed and upcoming young teams I would say that Khavronina/Narizhny and Pasechnik/Chirizano are the most promising ones, at least in terms of basic skills (not that I like them personally).
This year it's a bit hard to get videos from Russian competitons because Channel 1 started to block everything, but here are some links:
Pasechnik/Chirizano, FD
Khavronina/Narizhny, FD

Anna Scherbakova/Egor Goncharov just turned from juniors and are coached by Ekaterina Rubleva, whos teams usually have interesting choreo: RD, FD
There's also Kaganovskaya/Nekrasov who has a huge fan base but to me they are competely bland on the ice and the programs are quite blah. Anywaya there must be tons of videos of them on Youtube because of her tiktok fans.

And since I have started talking about Russian ice dance, lol - Mironova/Ustenko are probably in top-5 now but they are even potentially not as good as others, yet they are quite unique and at least interesring to watch (and they seem to be decent people). They are the only dance team from St Petersburg, and last summer they together with their coach went to train at Novi with Shpilband and in general try to seek as many international opportunities as possibel to improve themselves. And their coach is very realistic and sane.

Drozd has yet another partner, Angelopol probably too, but I can't keep up with that drama around him

I like it when we're on the same page.

Fear/Gibson didn't skate particularly well in the FD at SA, and lost some lift levels. Once that's tidied up they'll likely be back around similar scores to last season (absent NHK, which was a clear outlier). As a viewer I enjoy Beyonce vastly more than Rocky, but I do think Rocky worked better as a competitive programme for them.

I'm not going to take a bet on who will overtake whom and when. There are too many external factors that can disrupt a team's trajectory - injury, funding, life events etc etc. And we can all think of skaters who didn't fulfil their obvious potential (form @Ka3sha's Russian ice dance update: Khudaiberdieva, sigh) and others who achieved results we'd never have guessed from their debuts.

F/G are still improving, but I'd agree they probably don't have as much unused capacity as some of the younger teams. I think 2026 might be their best chance to win a world title.

Bunch of Random thoughts from the past couple events:

The scoring feels utterly arbitrary.

Lopareva & Brissaud got the message. We are different, and we should be different. Thank goodness. Say what you will about the material (and it has a ways to go in its development this season), at least it won't be one more soft & flowy program after 6 other soft & flowy FDs.

Taschlerova & Taschler: Whoever gave them/selected this generic FD, grrrr.

Gilles & Poirier: My mother has been whining about no one skating to the Beach Boys for at least a month now. Carol Lane and my mother clearly lived through the same version of the 60s and 70s. At any rate, this is a hit, IMO. They've done what you need to do with an RD, which is create a complete whole. Select music that clearly fits together to make a program.

Chock & Bates & their team: There is just no excuse for not learning the most basic lessons of the past, which is that the RD is not a survey course, and just because you have a more open selection of music options one year does not mean you should try to skate to every hit within it.

In summary:

Since the scoring seems arbitrary anyway, I'm going with the surfers for the RD and the robots for the FD.
