Tessa Virtue & Scott Moir # 47: Come What May...

Ok so here is my take on what is going on...

V&M CLEARLY have the superior SD & the judges know it..as much as I love Ed Sheeran & those songs, P&C SD is not on any level to compare to V&M's..
However the judges or some of them are going to mark them so close because they want a competitive FD final..
IF V&M were judged properly for their SD they should basically be at least 3-4 maybe more points ahead of P&C after the SD making it almost a forgone conclusion they would win Gold..
In order for that not to happen & for their to be a real competition for the Gold in the FD..the judges are WAY OVERMARKING P&C on their SD therefore making V&M's SD not look as superior as it really is..

My only hope is that tonight in their team SD they skate so well the judges cannot deny them the marks & they get within 83-85 which they should be getting if they skate clean & well!
IF they get under 82 then we will know the fix is in..

I'm scared because they look sooo amazing in the practice vids and pictures that I'm getting my hopes up. I don't know how I'll be able to watch them. :drama:
My wish is that they will be able to come out of the team event as the clear favorites and make sure the judges won't be able to deny them.

Exactly..I hope they skate so well in the SD that they judges cannot deny them a new WR..but I rarely get what I want in the Olympics so not holding my breath..

Both Leanna Caron and Sharon Rogers (ugh, I still remember her giving them an 8.75 in SS) are on the judging panel. Maybe they'll counteract each other?

Do we know if judges for the team are also judging the individual? Because if they're going to be underscored anywhere, I'd definitely prefer the team.

Different judges for IE I believe...

I didn't think they looked nervous at all. So how do you think it all went, people?

At this point, I just want them to have great performances and have the Olympic experience they haven't yet had (given Tessa's pain in 2010 and coaching/program issues in 2014). I'm gonna try not to let the judges take away any of my enjoyment of them. That said, I really hope Canada can come away with the team gold!

LMAO 80.51...level 2 for Rhumba section...go *uck yourselves judges..so glad it's not the same panel on the IE event..

With the technical panel being strict across the board, I'm fine with the scores. According to another forum the technical panel will be the same for the individual event, so the team event will help them for sure to figure out what needs to be fixed.

Personally I liked it a lot even though I was so nervous and couldn't really enjoy it. I'm sure I will love it when I watch it without being a nervous wreck.:D

So do you think it was a reasonale score then? Was everyone being marked low? What could possibly have got them a level 2 on the rhumba though?

80.51 - Not sure I understand the breakdown, but I understand the look on Scott’s face:
Technical Element Score = 41.64; Program Component Score = 38.90; Skating Skills = 9.61; Transitions = 9.54; Performance/Execution = 9.86; Choreography = 9.79; Interpretation = 9.82
??

It's so weird though, usually Olympic panels are very generous with tons of level 4s. When is the last time V/M got a level 2, let alone at the end of the season?

It's starting to look like P/C made the right choice to skip this event. I fully expect this panel to be more lenient in the individual event.

Judges don’t assign levels it’s the tech panel. Apparently it’s the same tech panel for individual ice dance event too

If it's the same tech panel and they plan on being just as strict in the IE, figuring out what went wrong now is imperative and this can only be a good thing. You do not want to go in untested with a caller that strict. Plus, this same panel are not going to be giving V/M's usual pattern and NtMiSt lower than P/C's usual unless they want major controversy. The head of the panel is British right? That's pretty neutral.

They looked amazing, performed confidently, were clearly the class of the field, have time to reassess. I'm not panicking.

I have no idea. To me everything looked fine but it is 3 am for me;). However, the panel was consistent and tough on everyone. It can only help to know what the technical panel are looking for and what mistakes they saw.

Are we sure it's the same panel in the IE? If it is, then I also think it's a huge benefit to get this test run. They looked fantastic out there, hopefully worked out any nerves or issues with olympic ice and have feedback on their programs. If the panel isn't as strict in the IE, their marks should go up to reflect that; if they are then hopefully this comes in handy for them. I'm trying not to panic because they still broke 80 with that panel so that's a good sign?

Ok but we don't know this. It's not a great look if everyone is well below their SB and looks unhappy with the scores. I think they will be "encouraged" to be more generous.

The harsh calls also mean that VM couldn't put out a new world record score, which would have given them momentum going into the individual event. This wasn't necessarily done on purpose but the end result is a win for P/C, politically.

My God, that was the absolute most nervous I have even been. I was shaking! So, my early take, having seen it only once....they had some tiny jitters and were just a tiny bit tight. That accounts for no 10s in PCS. Tanith said she thinks the lvl 2 was for Tessa's choctaw key point....I think the 80 pts is fine considering some of the other calls including the Shibs. All will be well. They were gorgeous and glorious and I think this will help them overall. PHEW.
