Tessa Virtue & Scott Moir # 47: Come What May...

V/M must be getting excited about the Opening Ceremonies. Such huge profile for them, especially in Canada. Their sponsors should be happy.

Am I correct that they skate the SD in the team event about 24 hours after the Opening C?

Will they skate SD in Team Event?

Tessa talked about planning something for the opening ceremonies with Marie and I really hope they do one of their lifts. Can you imagine how viral that would be, garnering more support for them?
When?

So cute! This reminds me a Korean fan on tumblr said Korean fans are making 300 banners for VM for the Olympics. I don’t know if she was joking or a typo but that would be insane…even for VM fans ;). But so cool if it’s true. It’s amazing how they have fans from so many different countries. I know people say VM fans mostly Canadians, but that’s not true at all says me a Californian.
I didn't read about this, when they said?
It was implied in one of the interviews they did after they were annouced as flag bearers.

May I ask an old question about 2010 since the die hards are in this thread? :D I was just clearing my DVR from all those Olympic Classics replays that the Olympic Channel ran a few weeks ago. In the 2010 Olympics, after the Russians skated and they kept showing Tessa/Scott backstage while waiting for the Russians score to come up, and when it did, you see Tessa's back and she looks at Scott, then Scott throws his head back and hugs her after the Russians scores come up confirming their win. But surely by that point they knew they sealed the deal after their own skate, and no way anyone left could have possibly beaten them. They already knew they won once they got their own scores. It seems like Scott was anxiously awaiting that score like it was a nail biter waiting to see if they won (which it wasn't, not even close) based on his reaction. Was something else going on to make Scott react that way? Like was Tessa joking like "OMG they beat us" or something?

Look in any VM thread, that's where you'll find the PC ubers doing their politicking.
I want to stay positive but the amount of negativity that is thrown towards V/M on this site makes it hard to be. This is the only thread I feel where we can post our true thoughts without the P/C thought police barging in and even in this thread we get a few annoying ubers coming in from time to time. Its weird because V/M have much larger fanbases on actual popular sites like Tumblr, Instagram, twitter, and facebook.

I was a skater for 15 odd years and yet I feel like I'm being gaslighted every time I read/am told that the two teams have equal skating skills and that the result comes down to artistic preference. IMO V/M just are the better technicians. P/C have better balance??? Scott's centre is the best of everyone's- just look at his spread eagle position, it's never weighted towards one side even with Tessa standing on his thighs. He does an even more incredible job supporting her in lifts when you consider that he's actually shorter than the ideal for T. They've got a greater run of blade, never force an edge from a flat, they're the most in sync team out there, they're as fast as P/C but manage that with fewer crossovers, less side by side skating and less two-footedness, they skate closer together, their patterns are huge, both Tessa and Scott always fully extend their lines (Gabby has her dodgy knees and limited turnout, and while Guillaume's flexibility is exquisite, sometimes I find he breaks the line a bit at the waist- it was mentioned elsewhere but they seemed oddly piked at Euros. I know he was ill, so maybe just an off day. Still got 81, which mystified me), and they change directions and holds more seamlessly than anyone.

I like the French. I think they're very good skaters. I think their style is very pretty to watch. I have issues with their lack of versatility, but don't think that has any bearing on who should win any given competition. I know what the scores say, I just am not understanding how the teams are being judged on a par in terms of skating skills. I've got to be missing something.

* I'm new and feel like I'm about to unleash hell. I'll go hide under a rock now.

Same with this Californian.

Their fans are surely not only Canadian. I can assure you they are absolutely adored in Russia, both by the fans and by the biggest part of the skating community. I have read many interviews where Zhulin, Averbuch, Ilinikch, Staviyski, all say they preferred them even from the time of their rivalry with the americans. And here is a Bulgarian, also from the other part of the world. who admires them :)

I'll have to watch a replay of the live stream for the opening ceremony to see them since I won't be up at 6 AM. Curse you EST standard time! :wall: . At least they have the skating comps at decent times.

Lucky you! To see the competitions live, I'd have to get up before 2 a.m... Which I'll probably will or at least will give it a try.

No! We do not want a "safe space" - that's for pathetic snowflakes. Just ignore what you don't like (including trolls), be more thick skinned, and celebrate. Easy.
I hope everyone reads this and takes it to heart. You’re in last place if you can’t look past some strangers post on a fan forum.

As again we approach the "end of an era" with Tessa and Scott, I so appreciate being able to come here and learn from their devoted fans on this forum. To their fans - both those who are long time and those who recently discovered this marvelous dance team, what a wonderful ride we have had the privilege to go on with them. As much as ice dance will never be quite the same without them for me, I wish them fantastic lives as they move forward in their goals. I know they are scheduled for CSOI but wonder if they will continue to skate at opportunities that come their way or move on to new ventures. I think skating is in Scott's blood but Tessa seems to have more interest in school so I guess time will tell.
It will be sad to see this thread dwindle but they will remain such influential figures in the sport they have given so much to.

That's an amazing post. Thank you so much for it. I really, really hope that they will do at least one more show tour in central Europe. I can't imagine not seeing them live one more time.
Until then: Let's root for them and hope for the last two Olympic gold medals, so that their dream will come true <3!!
