Survivor v32 - Brains, Brawn, Beauty v2

I couldn't stand Debbie, so I wasn't sorry to see her go, but I agree it was a missed opportunity. If they went back to the original plan, it would have been a 3-way tie: Cydney and two of the guys. Tai saves one guy with the idol, then they revote and the other guy is out. Or, the 3-way tie continues to be deadlocked, Tai saves one guy and the other two people with votes do whatever challenge or tiebreaker they have now. Either way, the super idol is gone, and at best, one of the guys is gone. At worst, they lose one of their group but at least the super idol is gone.

Debbie's Ponderosa video is up and it's pretty good. Some nice subtle storytelling with the editing (we see Debbie weighed in - she went from 114 to 101 - and a few minutes later she's telling the guys that she weighed in at 96 pounds. I think that's indicative of all her stories, they are mostly true but given an unnecessary bit of oomph

Nick must think he's died and ended up in purgatory being stuck with Neal and Debbie

I really wish that someone would have sacrificed themselves and sabotaged Scot, Jason, and Tai on the reward challenge. It would have been EPIC to see how they would have reacted.

Right? That was my first thought too. Like join the guys and then just sit down on the sand when Jeff says "go"! It would've been a first and so so satisfying :biggrinbo

Actually, in that scenario Tai would have used the Super Idol after the votes were read to steal one of the votes for one the men and turn it into a vote for Cydney. So bye-bye Cydney.

If they hadn't already planned to vote out Debbie, their only hope would have been to swing all 6 votes to one of the men in a gamble that an idol wouldn't be played for that man before the votes were counted. That way the Super Idol wouldn't help (going from 6-3 to 5-4) and the man is out. And if perchance one of the idols was played (before the votes were read) for the man with 6 votes and they lost Cydney, they would still have a 5-3 majority at the next tribal.

I thought the superidol is just like an idol, only it can be used after the votes are read. So it invalidates ALL the votes for whoever uses it.

Last week's elimination of Nick was satisfying, but they really should have stayed with the plan to get rid of Jason, as he clearly didn't see it coming (and Tai was clearly on board with it, so the superidol would not have come into play).

I'm confused about the Super Idol. I thought that the only way the "Super Idol" would work is if you (single person) hands Jeff 2 separate Idols, thus making the "Super Idol". So this would require two people giving up their Idols to make it work. Is that the way it works? If it were me, I would not want to give up my single Idol just to make it work.

That's exactly how it works. Two idols essentially have the same power as the HII did in the Exile Island and Cook Island seasons -- that you're able to play it after the vote is read. Essentially it's a free ride to the finals since everybody else is too scared to flush it out since it's so powerful.

I dislike the super idol. IMO, a plan needs to be formed to sacrifice someone in order to flush it.
So complicated.

The problem is that the sacrificial lamb will be at the disposal of the other side, since they don't have enough of their own to split votes and ensure they all stay. Nobody is going to want it to be them, and the guys can basically pick whoever they want. But taking that risk is about the only way to get the idols out of play, unless Tai comes over from the dark side.

You are right. I don't know where I got the idea that you could switch a vote with it. But I still think swinging all six votes to one person would have been best. Best case, they play the 2 idols before the vote count for the wrong 2 people. Then have 6-2 majority with no idols in possesion. Worse case the 2 idols are used to save the person voted for. Then have 5-3 majority with no idols in possession.

The super idol can be used after the votes are read. No need to play anything beforehand.

ETA: I see you mentioned that scenario. Missed it the first time.

I just caught up on all of my missed episodes and I am totally confused. Do you mean to tell me that they Tai has the superidol in his possession now? I thought that he had used it.

Nope, Tai has one idol and Jason has one idol. They were just showing off with them at TC. They can combine the idols to make one super idol, which can be used just like a regular idol, but after the votes are read. This gives an enormous advantage, but they will have to agree to use it together.

I'm not a fan of the super idol, it's too much like a get out of jail free card.

And it's been confirmed (though not shown in the episode) that Tai gave Jason back his idol after TC, so Tai does NOT have 2 idols.

Tai also tweeted that he is sorry to have disappointed so many fans

yep

here's the tweet:

Have not seen yet but so Painful to hear your disappointme[nt]. Gonna be tough to watch it with my westcoast friends later

I think so too - plus aligning with the gruesome twosome.

Yeah, that was bad enough. But he really crossed over when he put out the fire. Until that point, he was just kind of playing the hand he was dealt.

Aww...I didn't like that either, but he seemed so genuinely uncomfortable with his own behaviour later that I instantly forgave him :) Let's hope he redeems himself in the coming episodes!

I have never stopped watching a season but I seriously might have had to this time if Tai had stuck with the dark side as I don't think I could have watched the arrogance of Scot and Jason for the rest of the season. I would have just been happy with Scot leaving, but love the icing on the cake that @Fridge_Break pointed out

Aubry is quietly playing a great game and got mad props from the other players tonight. Hope she takes it all the way, although at this point I could live with a win by anyone but Jason. (Well, a Joe win would also suck, but I know that no one would ever vote for him)

Thank you Tai, I haven't disliked a pair of contestants as much since the season where the winner was a porn star. I could not bear to watch them gloat for another week.
