Stolbova and Klimov Thread

I'm thrilled for them, although I've never seen so many backhanded compliments before, lol (in response to their win, mostly at the other forum...I had to quit reading before my eyes rolled out of my head). The program was flawless & totally captivating to me. Their happiness is my happiness!

I totally agree. I watched them when I got home from work. I was completely spellbound. All the special cheoro. moments with each part of their bodies perfectly placed. Wow

I was one of those who was highly critical of their chose to skip worlds last year and thought it was a big mistake. However in saying that I also noted the proof whether their plan was the right one would be in the results of the season. Apart from a nightmarish Skate America, the proof has been positive so far and it looks like they might have made the right choice all along.

But did they really need to skip World last year in order to give the performance that they gave today? It's hard for me to believe that.

-----

S&K were very good today. They both could be a bit more expressive in the faces but that's minor detail. Can someone please give Fedor the same sexy costume style that his partner is wearing? Thank you for the form-fitting pants though ;)

Gotta give credit to Nina Mozer & team (and **cough cough** Nikolai Morozov).
They have really helped bring out the best in those two. Can't wait for Europeans and Worlds!!

I see your point, but had they not won atleast silver at worlds their confidence could have been burnt further. Given the standard of competition at worlds and their performance at Europeans last year, they could have easily not medalled, which might have set them back further. Who knows, but either way it looks like things will work out for them.

A well deserved victory indeed. I like their unison, lines and sophisticated programme and costuming but I would still like to see just a Little bit more connection between them.

Chiming in late as I am just getting around to watching vids. Congrats to Ksenia and Fedor *and* their choreographer. Absolutely fantastic FS. In the midst of the quad throws, they are not getting enough credit for being as avant guard as they are.

That looks like it's changing, they just got .06 away from the all time record score in a free program which was V&T on home ice in Sochi!!! And the second best over all score as well

@Amantide, Alla Kapranova is working with Ksenia and Fedor, she is their "everyday" choreographer at Mozer's rink :)

Yes I know, that's why I think she has much credit to take about their choreo and I was thinking maybe TAT said something about it. :)

I didn't know what to expect from Stol-Klim, and I am very impressed with their performance at GPF.

It's funny isn't it? Last season I was so sure they were going to win this and they didn't. This season I wasn't even sure if I wanted if I wanted them to be in the GPF and I would've been very happy even with a bronze and they win, and what a victory that was. :respec:

p.s. THE QUEEN is happy! :)

I love this outfit they used in practice. Very sexy. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BOuu_g1fhSQ

Nobody wears a tight t-shirt quite like Fedor ;)

Still don't understand why people keep harping on their perceived lack of connection. Sure, compared to V/T or G/G or whoever it's not going to be the same...it can't be. But I think they connect just fine, certainly better than some others...

To each their own, I suppose. There are also those who are just trying to find something and whine about it because they don't like them. They usually hear one say something and they keep repeating it like parrots without even having a clue of what they're talking about. I suspect there is a confusion about what "connection" is. What are we talking about here? You love me, I love you. I'm lost in you, you're lost in me. I'm fragile, you are my rock? I'm the princess and you are my prince? I see you and my heart explode? :fragile:What exactly?!
I love their connection the way it is. I don't want them to be V&T or G&G. That's not their style and It's not who they are. It's one of the reasons why I think makes them so unique as a Pair.

Totally agree! I love how different all the top Russian pairs are (though I don't think T/M have quite found their special niche yet, talented as they are). It would be so boring if they all looked the same.

V/T's 154.66 was at 2013 SA. They "only" scored 152.69 on home ice in Sochi, and S/K's FS score in Barcelona surpassed that :respec:

I really like them and think Fedor is an excellent skater - she gets a lot of hype for her diva antics, but I think he's the more talented of the pair. I'm pretty surprised at how generous the technical controllers have been with their 3-3-2 combo though - there have been arguable underrotation issues and/or two-foots to that combination in the last two competitions and they've not been called on it (they're making similar errors in practice too). Its going to lure them into a false of security.

Oh please. She is a fabulous skater. One of the few best female skaters out there. Skating skills, jumps, throws, body movements, posture, body lines, interpretation, performance. What more do you want? You may not like her, but skating is not the reason.

Since I am home , recuperating after surgery, I decided to watch ALL the videos in the GPF thread. Even the pairs medal ceremony, since I love S/K. I was cracking up at K-Stolb's (love whoever came up with that!) face when they received the stuffed animal. No idea what it was and apparently they didn't know either from the confused looks they were giving it. Also amused by how much stuff they were handed at the COR medal ceremony. I was afraid something was either going to get dropped or someone was going to fall! Her faces are priceless sometimes. I think she probably has a wicked sense of humor...

I think the connection between them (or lack thereof) is a reflection of their personal relationship. Recent great Russian pairs were either in love- Gordeeva & Grinkov, Volosozhar & Trankov, or very good friends- Artur and both his partners, Berezhnaya & Sikharulidze, Totmianina & Marinin. Stolbova & Klimov dont even hang out hardly ever off the ice from what I have heard, and have a strictly working relationship, and that is how they interact on the ice too.

If you read my post, you will see that I didn't say anything about not liking her. I merely said that she gets more of the press for her diva antics as between her and Fedor. I did not comment on her abilities as a skater, beyond noting that she does struggle on a very difficult 3-3-2 combination. So, I'm a little confused about your response - maybe I'm missing something?

I think the point was that Fedor is also an excellent skater, and just as brilliant, but it isnt recognized as much by people due to his quiet personality.

If that was the point there is no need to bring her down. Not her fault if people talk more about her. I love them both, I think they work as a match exactly because of their different personalities. He is perfect for her and viceversa, me think.

Saying she gets a lot of hype for her diva antics I think it's unfair because she does get it also because of her skills and talent.

I didnt interpret his post as bringing her down though.

How is that unfair when it is true that she DOES get a lot of buzz for her antics? I didn't say that was the only reason she got hype. She's a solid skater, there's no doubt.

I think people will always be more interested in people with colorful or even slightly controversial personalities so I do think that she gets more attention than him is natural. I also think he prefers it that way.

I agree they are excellent pairing personality wise, even if they arent super close as a personal relationship. They are both such stronger skaters and technicians too, and both are able to do all the things well together that make a potential great pair.
