I was wondering if that person said something particularly crappy about Olivia when I saw a certain tweet earlier today. I didn't bother to engage because it seemed pretty clear from the tweet that there wasn't talking any sense into them on the topic.

This bullshit on twitter reminded me that, while Fanyus get loads of deserved slack, the original crazies on the english side of modern social media fandom were the VMies, and even worse is that they're stanning a pair that haven't even done anything of relevance for 6 years now. (At least Hanyu has his ice shows for his fans to be going crazy over)

Fair enough. Let's just consider ourselves lucky that modern social media did not exist during the 1990s and early '00s - between the MK/TL fan wars, the endless ice dance drama and judging shenanigans in both pairs & ice dance...

As far as those folks trying to excuse their bad behavior - they need to ask themselves if they're willing to say what they're typing to the skaters themselves directly, face-to-face. If not, then they're out of line.

NOTHING will be as bad as the bullying Katia Gordeeva endured when she got together with Ilia Kulik. You had a bunch of fans (Sergei widows) trying to get Katia's kids taken away from her and having Katia deported. These people stalked Katia at her rink and at the grocery store and bragged about it online. It was so creepy.

Katia was famously frosty to fans during that time period. Now that the craziness is over, Katia actually has two social media accts to keep in touch with fans: her normal IG and a Russian-language fan IG.

Fandom as a concept can be so toxic and strange like the belief you possess/own someone in some fashion; and it's such a double edged sword needing that interaction for your career be it sports or acting or whatever, but how so many people just don't give a shit about boundaries and cross them so often people are abused by these so called 'fans'.

Social media now adds another sinister aspect as every keyboard warrior--tbf it's the same with forums or back in the IRC days or whatever too but I think SM makes it worse--has a go and they can SEE IT and they READ IT. Would you say it to someone's face? Some people sure would, see what was said to Kaitlyn Hawayek.

I don't do Twitter but FS twitter seems SO toxic (I got banned from the FS subreddit for something innocuous so I don't go there either they seem crazy too).

I'm glad she said something about it.
