I encourage you to listen to "Scott Hamilton Talks With. . ." I see that this internet interview series has already been discussed; it's worth mentioning again.

I discovered it last night, and thoroughly enjoyed it, especially this one: <https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cTdgu5B032I> where 3 old friends get together and talk about skating in the era when I learned about it.

I've posted links to several of Scott's "chat" videos in various skater specific fan threads here... here's the full playlist:

I especially enjoyed the interviews with Gracie Gold and Evan Lysacek. The one with Meryl, Charlie and Tanith went to a whole 'nother level. And Scott deserves a lot of credit for asking questions that let the skaters go off on tangents in the direction of their thoughts, which makes these interviews quite different from the usual things we hear them say. A couple of them even said, hmm, no one's ever asked me that before!

I've watched less than half of these; I must find time to listen to Nathan's and Brian's. Thank you Nikki Lee for reminding me of them again!

I believe Scott provides a relaxing atmosphere, and there is a certain degree of freedom when talking to him. Scott has a natural style and ability to make skaters feel comfortable enough to open up more than they might typically do in an interview or with another interviewer.

I like this series as well.

The ones with Brian Boitano, as well as Brian Orser and Tracey Wilson, felt like they were catching up with old friends. Their shared histories together made for fascinating listening.

The only other times skaters tend to be interviewed are either for puff pieces, or during the height of competition at press conferences and the like. Certainly, not given the luxury to speak for an hour at their leisure.

With the media hanging on their every word, athletes are probably very aware that their performances on the ice count for as much off it.
