Russian figure skating news in 2024

Well Mark’s grown up (haven’t seen these guys in almost three years)

Kondratiuk just before his skate has the same face I had waking up after our company's Xmas party.
Not sure I want to watch him anyway.
He is actually sick and apparently skated his SP with a temperature of 39 degrees. I have no idea how he did that considering I almost pass out at 38.

He deserves to be sued for racism tbh. This really doesn't deserve anything more than 2 or 3 in choreography/composition.

Russian figure skating really forced me to sit through an entire group of skaters JUST to get to the program I wanted to hate-watch, like. Why are they at Milano.

With luck either might finish Top 10 in Milan. No way are they competitive with the top guys.
Dikidzhi, when on, has all the quads except for the axel. He might not be the greatest artist for now, but I believe in this kid.

Based on what I saw today, they are certainly capable of getting into the final group and putting themselves in the mix. Malinin and Kagiyama lead the way with a bit of cushion, Fa's status is unknown right now and he had to come from way behind as it was last year, and then you have a bunch of unpredictable skaters in the next grouping. Kao Miura would be a big potential spoiler but I don't even think we will see him at Worlds this year because of his own inconsistencies.

He makes Ilia look like a great artist (and I think Ilia is exactly where he needs to be given his age, he believes in his material.)

However, given where Miura and Sato finished earlier today, I agree that after the top 2-3 guys it's anybody's game. So I withdraw my comment. :)

I enjoyed Ignatov, wasn’t sure what to expect as it’s been a few years since I have seen him and I was impressed.
He somehow manages to finish high enough to stay on the national team and nobody ever thinks he will.

The men's event was wild. Semenenko had the best redemption skate to move up from 9th to 3rd. Dikidzhe is a :rockstar: with beautiful eyes, and my boy Gleb Lutfullin skated his way into a silver medal. Tuk has worked with him all season and his confidence and improvement in PCS shows. Gumennik has a killer SP but the FS has been a nightmare all season same with Mark. And, most elegant pop goes to Aliev. Nobody can pop like you do.

But, the real  skate is Savosin's. Get somebody who speaks Italian to intrepret the lyrics to his music. Have your pearls ready to clutch.

The interview with the top 3 is so cute. Semenenko changed his jump layout after the warm-up, Dikidzhi seems as if he still can't believe he actually won, they are all friends, rooting for each other and always watching each other's skates.

Yagudin looks terrible.

Who here amongst the top men could even hypothetically be sent to the qualifier?
Dikidzhe unless Mishin uses all the clout he has to get Semenenko the slot (something he never managed with Tuk). Dikidzhe has the best chance for a top 10 finish and earning spots for the next quad. And, none of the qualifiers should impact him at all.

It All depends how the screeners feel about the nationals being sponsored by companies that are under sanctions for being involved in Ukraine war. Are the skaters punished for participating in an event that is a part of the war effort

Disagree. Dikizhi can fight for the top places and not just the top 10.

Are you kidding?

He has clean quad lutz and quad flip in Russian Nations and other competitions and has landed quad Axel in practics

Of course they are all friends. They train in the same rink in saint petersburg. They are all native to saint petersburg

Aliev is alieving.

Ahh, good to know he's not forgotten that men must men, no matter where in the world they are. Teaching the new generation the ways of the world. ;)

Dikidzhi has a 4A, apparently, so...

He doesn't have a 4a until he successfully lands one in competition.

Sounds like I need to go find a video replay of the men to see these guys. I'll try to do that sometime this weekend (sleep called my name well earlier & is still beckoning).

ETA - @rfisher - at this time, no additional spots are up for grabs - that will have to wait until Euros & Worlds 2026 at the earliest.

He's not ready to attempt the 4A in competition and while Russian Nationals is a high pressure event, he hasn't been tried before an international panel. I don't know if he can fight for a medal now, but I do think he can within the next quad. A top 5 finish would be an amazing accomplishment for him. I just want him to have the chance to compete against the rest of the world's skaters and see what he can achieve. I do think he'd be on the podium at Europeans.

I don't know if this is an attempt at rehashing the decades-old rivalry/comparison  , but I have seen him as of late. Yagudin still looks absolutely terrible.
Lol actually if we are going to reheat that, I preferred Yagudin overall ;) Except for Plushenko's Nijinsky programme.

They both look like death warmed up but I give the platinum medal to Plushenko because he looks like he's hasn't slept or shaved in days.
