It is a treatment for osteoporosis but it can have serious side effects like most drugs.

My doctor recommendations it for me but I am hesitant. It is a lifetime commitment. I've read a lot about it on line but still would like personal input.

Does anybody here use it or know of anybody who does use it?

This is the shot, right? Costs $1600 and is to be given every 6 months? I had 3 injections. Then I realized my Dr. hadn't called me to make an appt in a long time. Somewhere along the line I had a bone density scan. When I went into the dr, he looked at my scan and said.............well, you have great bones. You certainly don't need this. I don't remember any weird side affects.

Yes, this is the one. I am shocked that this procedure was recommended to you when your bone density was still good.

Thanks for your reply.

My best friend is on Prolia (aka Denosumab in our country) and hasn't suffered any nasty side effects until now, except recurrent UTI infections. But each individual is different and will react differently. The list of side-effects mentioned on the medication is a bit scary... But so is severe osteoporosis, nobody wants to end up with fractured vertebrae and/or femur. My friend is a former elite athlete (marathon runner and competitive climber + moutain biker) who had premature menopause at 43. I really don't understand how Prolia/Denosumab can be prescribed to someone with normal bone density. It's counter-productive and very dangerous. For the record Denosumab is almost 10 times cheaper in Europe... Around €190 (approx. US$ 210) per injection...
